Illicit Mahjong Operation Busted in Macau

Law enforcement officials in Macau are going after the heavy hitters on the island, breaking up a mahjong crime ring that was taking in as much as MOP500 per month.

The bust went down in the Av. Marginal do Lam Mau area and saw four suspects taken into custody. The ring was reported by tipsters and police came in to take a look at the inside of the shop. Upon entering the attic, police found two mahjong tables. The tables were charging MOP80 per hour for play, and the skim that the operation received was about MOP500 per month. The tables had been in operation since March.

The move is the latest attempt by Macau authorities to clamp down on illegal gambling, as the island destination serves as the largest gambling market in the world.

Despite the island generating billions of patacas in revenue on a monthly basis, its good to see that authorities are taking steps like this to keep the public safe from illegal gambling. :sarcasm:
