Gemeinsamen Glücksspielbehörde der Länder Fines Operator

This week it was revealed that German gaming regulator Gemeinsamen Glücksspielbehörde der Länder has fined an unnamed gaming operator a five-figure sum for violating gambling advertising rules in the country.

GGL says that the casino "deliberately advertised" its wares on websites, which themselves advertised illegal gambling products. GGL says that by doing so, the company violated the Fourth State Treaty on Gambling and therefore is liable and needs to pay the fine.

The GGL is a newer gaming regulator, having come into effect on July 1st last year for enforcement, and taking over all aspects of regulation in Germany on January 1st. The offending operator is being left anonymous, as is the exact fine amount.

Regarding the fine, GGL CEO Ronald Benter said, "We consider these advertising regulations to be very good and justified. The GGL consistently monitors offers from legal providers.

"In the event of violations, we levy heavy fines. The withdrawal of the licence in the event of repeated violations of the provisions of the State Treaty on Gaming is a measure that we do not shy away from."
