The Powerpuff Girls (2016)
We all know why it is an issue.
Terrible plots, children twerking, careless art, trying too hard voice actors.......
An empty shell, for an empty show. There is no heart in this show. It is only there for merchandise . You know, there's a famous fan comic called "PPGD", by Bleedman. I consider that more canon and in character than this reboot, as well as the PPGZ 2006 Anime. Both the comic and anime were made in East Asia, on the OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD, and take place in an alternative future. Both these Asian works have their own section on Fanfiction.com, while the 2016 reboot does not. That alone says the terrible quality of this show. The fourth powderpuff girl had nothing but a quick effort to gain attention. When the twerking episode got PPG 2016 publicity, they allowed a pedophile to ship himself with a six year old.
I feel so bad for Craig. His characters have been ruined to the ground. To any hopeful animators that are reading this, let these reboots be a lesson; when you give away the rights to your babies, you give away the right to actually make quality. These channels can make or break your ideas.
Teen Titans Go! (2013)
A Disgrace to the Original Comics, 2003 Series, and the old Cartoon Network.
Teen Titans Go; when it was announced in 2013, I was quite delighted. After all, me and my brother enjoyed the very funny 2012 shorts that CN had aired, during their DC comics weeks. I was even more delighted that it was a comedy, as I believed it would've had the same short but quirky taste the shorts had.
The first few episodes weren't as funny, but they had a little charm. Then, halfway through season one, it just gave up. The show had a potentional to bring the comedic, romantic, nostalgic filled, action scenes, and serious lovers of the original together, and completely failed. At first, it was laughable how low they went, then turning into annoyance, anger, pity, and, finally, sadness. I'll go into it in order.
Animation: The least harmful. The colors are bright and annoying, but the art style is alright. The animation is fluid, as the seasons pass by, though that's most likely due to most of the 11 minutes being mini sketches in between.
Music: "The Night Begins to Shine" was about the only song with clear effort; ironically, the episode with the same name is the only time TTG felt like a show not just to troll the fans of the original. The worse has got to be the "Waffles" song. I love how they just throw in out of place, MSPaint fully recolored backgrounds and images in the low budget music videos some songs have. The intro alone makes you realize the low budget, though, so I'm not very irritated.
Comedy: How ironic, the show meant only for comedy fails. From saying waffles all the time, to having characters twerk their asses in front of your face, you sit there in disturbance only. The jokes were funny in the beginning, but that was due to small attempts of effort. The jokes that could possibly be funny just go on and on and on. I doubt any children over seven could laugh at every single episode.
Romance: I don't really care for this, but I'd like to say that Robin and Starfire's relationship is pathetic, in this version, cause there's nothing in the show that makes you feel bad for either of them. Ironically, despite the "dedication" put into shoving Beast Boy and Raven, you only feel emptiness, as, while you see your childhood couple as an actual couple, it does not have any dedication or development; only there for fan service. BBRae rose to being one of the most popular couples in 2000's cartoons (Still, to this day) because of all the episodes dedicated to how Garfield and Raven slowly start to get a better understanding of each other, learning how, even with their differences, they are quite similar. There's four or five videos called "BBRae" moments on YouTube, of the original, and that was almost a hour, if not more. I think it's obvious which wins.
Characters: Robin is a sociopath. Starfire has been reduced to a bimbo. Raven is just a fetish personification of Tara Strong. Beastboy has been flanderized like a Family Guy character. Cyborg is a living stereotype. The characters of the original were what many people remember; so many YouTube videos on Raven triumphing over her father, the literal Satan of the DCU. The impactful scene of Cyborg telling Starfire that he knows how it feels to be discriminated against. To this day, fan fictions are still being made on Teen Titans, at Fanfiction.com. I am one of them. The site has 40k+ stories for Teen Titans, filled with people motivated to expand on the backstories and character development left open. The only series with a higher fan fiction score was Avatar: The Last Airbender, which also has incredible character development. Both shows have been done over a decade (Teen Titans) and soon to be a decade
(Avatar) ago, but the beautiful and tragic backstories and character developments still inspire people to build on the already amazingly developed and well thought out world. This is why people hate the characters' flanderization in the reboot; the original was practically dedicated to develop the teens from "your typical kids with powers to stop le bad guys!!'??!! Edgy XDXD" to young men and women, ready to protect the world at all costs, with a united stance. Teen Titans Go ruins this with characters acting ten years younger than they actually are, doing and saying the most ridiculous, out of character things, and having voice actors who are clearly starting to turn dead inside; especially Cyborg and Raven, Cyborg's "BOOYAH!" catchphrase sounding more strained and forced, while Tara Strong has the saddest faces in interviews, when talking about if she enjoys the show. I am happy that Ron Pearlman, voice actor of Slade, didn't voice in this trash.
Fanservice: Remember how I brought up fanservice? Well, this is a major problem. I believe that children shouldn't be shielded from all the more serious topics older cartoons dealt with. However, there's a line. "Legs" is a good example. Specifically fetishizing a teenage girl's legs, yet comparing about Starfire's midriff. I know the creators didn't watch the actual show, but they should've realized that Starfire's outfit was based on the early teen girl trends on showing your midriff in casual clothes. Every cute cartoon girl did it. Kim Possible did it. Static Shock did it. Even the April from the TMNT 2003 did it. Raven is basically every early 2000's shut in goth. Yet, they have to nerve to insult this, while making purposely fetishable stuff, for CHILDREN. Most TTG fanart is just Deviantart fetish art for buttocks and legs; I literally accidentally stumbled on some artist, SB69 I think is his name, who probably is 70% of the TTG fetish art on Deviantart. Ironically, almost every single positive review for this show here mentions Raven's legs or Starfire's "new cute personality". The show is literally only defended because fetish artists get to jerk off to canon fanservice. On shows meant for kids.
Critic Epsiodes: The worse, I believe. The TTG creators remind me of the creators of the infamous 1996 game "Bubsy 3D". The creators completely ignored the issues with the programming and coding of the game, blaming Mario 364 for their failure. If you've played or seen the game, you'd see that the game is bugged, incorrectly and logically formatted, and packed with dry humor of the Sonic rip-off. That is exactly Teen Titans Go. Teen Titans Go tried and failed to be Gumball, or a MAD tv rip off. When it didn't work, they ignored the obvious issues with their product and blamed it on shows that took effort, keyword on EFFORT. In life, the boring, repetitive criticisms you face are what helps you improve in anything you go for, let it be a job, a instrument, a hobby, etc. TTG complains about the same arguments thrown at them, yet, surprise, they don't do anything to fix those issues. You cannot ignore changeable flaws just because you are too stubborn to accept that your ideas weren't the best.
That's it. 1/10. It can't even be a 2 because they focus so much on grown fans of the original, than the show called "children targeted audiences ".
I know it's for kids, but that's the issue; kids get trashy reboots that exist just to troll older audiences.
Not only do the children deserve better, but THE Teen Titans, who were already in a show that had an infamous cliffhanger, deserved an official end, not a trashy reboot.
The 2003 Titans deserves better.
