Irish Circles

My sewing this week has been all about sewing my Irish Circles blocks together and getting the first border on. The next border has lots of lovely appliqué. I've prepped the first side, so that should keep me busy for a while.

No progress on DJ this week, but thanks for all your comments about my blocks so far. Especially the ones that suggest I add my sashing pieces as I go, so it isn't such a big job at the end.....great idea.

I'm off to plant out a lot of little ground cover plants on a bare embankment. Between the kangaroos, chickens and weeds I'm not sure how much success I'll have, but it's certainly a beautiful day for gardening.

Hexie fever

I think I always knew the day would come when I couldn't resist trying some smaller hexagons. Last time I was at The Home Patch I bought some 3/8" hexie papers. They are even cuter than half inch ones.

Spurred on by my success, some 1/4" papers arrived. I think this is the moment I officially lost my mind, they are so small......but look at how cute they are sitting on a 1" hexie.

Now the half inch hexies feel huge to work with......the three sizes.

After seeing this post at Quilts in the Barn I feel inspired to create some mini quilts. I've never really seen the point of mini quilts until now. I have one from a couple of years ago, and that's what I'll use the little hexies for too.

The school holidays are going well, the boys have been enjoying lots of water bomb games, sleeping in and generally taking it easy. I have been busy turning this.......

.......into this. Painting the fence has been on the job list for far too long.

Happy Friday.....enjoy the weekend.

Long weekend

Making a mess of the front yard........

.....and sewing on the binding of my French General quilt.

We had 33mm of rain on Friday night so the garden is very happy, and our digging is a little easier.

Hope you're having a great weekend.

In Full Bloom

I have spent the whole day at home, a rare treat. Movies for the boys and sewing for me...... although there is a pretty serious water fight going on outside at the moment.
I have had a big session on the sewing machine today and now my In Full Bloom top is finished. I'm really happy with it. I think I'll use the leftover fabrics to piece the back. Joanne at Tranquility had a finished one on display, and it really won't need much quilting.

Some lovely mail yesterday. Lisa from Cubby House crafts sent me these sweet little Tilda birds. She is such a clever girl. Better find them a home inside.

I've been doing some gardening too - must be something about Spring. I like plants that don't need very much attention or water, so the rhubarb has died, but this crab apple is gorgeous at the moment (Tom Matthews I think).

I love school holidays. Hope you're having fun too.

A relaxing Sunday afternoon?

Not really. Lopping tree branches is a little bit scary.

No children (or husbands) were harmed, but the gate is a little worse for wear. Now my clothesline is back in the sun.

Yay. Housework done. Shopping done. Back to my stitching!

SKOW bag is coming along. It's construction method is a bit different for me, but I think it will be okay.

Had a dreadful experience on Monday. Waiting in town for Mr 10, hmmmm, how about a bit of stitching. Fabric, thread, scissors, needle - NO NEEDLE. How on earth could there not be a needle in my car?? Normally I can cover how badly impatient I am by sewing or reading - but I had neither - it was the longest half hour I've had for some time. But I made up for it when I got home, and have started the Birdhouse block for IFB.

I have planted 7 new trees now. My hole diggers have abandoned me. It's probably quite funny watching me swing a mattock out in the paddock. Three more to go. It's nice to get beyond the house yard and plant some trees that will (hopefully) grow really big. I loved the trees in NZ, so maybe I'm trying to re-create a little of that here. Some pine trees will be next on my list (oh how I wish I could grow a giant NZ hedge).

Off to Bathurst to visit Dad tomorrow. I really can't justify going to The Home Patch again - maybe I'll just pop into the other fabric shop - just for a little look.
