Tis the season for giving

Another wonderful catchup with the Cassilis quilters today, last time for 2015. It was definitely like Christmas!

I made selvedge zipper pouches for Raelee, Julie, Kylie and Bev.......and a few spares.

And a new pin cushion for Lea, provider of the 1930's scraps.

Before......

And after.

Beautiful gifts made by my talented friends, thank you so much. X

A Stitching Sleepover

What could be better at the end of a busy week than heading off to a stitching sleepover? Last Saturday I loaded up the car with a months worth of sewing and drove to Muswellbrook for a sleepover with the Casillis quilters. It was so good to sew all day and late into the night with Lea, Raelee, Kylie, Alison and Julie. Unfortunately Bev was sick so couldn't make it.

These girls are so clever, there was lots of inspirational sewing happening. I adore Lea's Liberty foxes quilt.

Raelee's quilting progress was fantastic after only one lesson.

And Kylie finished hand quilting her beautiful Gardeners Journal.

Quilting in front of the open fire until my eyes wouldn't stay open was magic!

Thanks for a great weekend girls, it was good for the soul.

Personal best

I have finished the baby quilt I started last week. It would have to be a personal best for me......eight days from purchase to quilted and binding on. It was fun to make, and the perle quilting was quick to do. I had my doubts about the fabric choice, but I quite like it now that it's finished.

Sunday saw me on the road to Cassilis for a long overdue catch up. Spending the day with these lovely, funny, creative women really is fantastic......wish I could do it more often. Here we are having a celebratory drink for Raelee's birthday. Me, Kylie, the birthday girl Raelee and Lea.

I didn't take any photos of what we were working on, but I did have some accessory envy with this cute reel holder Lea made for Raelee.

I have too many slow projects on the go lately. Whilst I find them very satisfying to work on it can get a bit frustrating. So what do I do? Go and buy another slow project.....I must be mad! I finished the second Quaker Samplings cross stitch in blue a while back. I just love the sampler style so now Scarlet Ribands has arrived and is waiting to come to life in Ruby Slipper thread.....great name for the thread don't you think? The stitched area is 20" x 21" so I think this will keep me going for quite some time! I ordered the linens and thread over the phone from The Crewel Gobelin and I have to say their service is excellent, it's not easy to discuss shades of linen for a big project over the phone. I phoned Thursday and it was in my mailbox Friday!

Happy stitching.

Weekend sewing

I'm back! I've changed over to the Blogger app and it seems to be working again....phew.

I joined in the Chookshed celebrations by basting my Irish Circles quilt on Friday. Thank goodness for the pinning tool from Cheryll, it saved my fingers.

Then on Saturday the Cassilis quilters finally got together again. There were lots of holiday stories from Africa, America, South Australia (and Dubbo for a lucky few!). And lots of gifts. African fabric from Julie and teeny tiny foundation piecing kits from Lea's quilting trip to the U.S.

Lea also shared her antique quilt purchases. Love this applique tent maker quilt.......

.....and this mini is only 8"square! Beautiful.

Raelee made the first stitches in her epic cross stitch.....it's about 90cm by 60cm, so will definitely be a labour of love. This is her pretty stars progress.

We were all prepared to celebrate Lea's milestone birthday, but we were a year early! Very funny and embarrassing. My neighbour decorated these sewing themed cakes, we even had flowers, birthday cake and presents.

I was working on binding my nine patch quilt, and hope to finish tonight.

Thank you

Thank you for all your lovely, caring comments on my last post. I was in two minds about it, but it's something I needed to share with my friends. I really felt your love and support so thank you. We had a wonderful celebration of Dad's life, and will now focus on all the happy memories.

It was a welcome break to have lunch with the Cassilis Quilters last week. I had made some little gifts for Christmas a while ago. Yes, more zipper pouches.

Lea made each of us a gorgeous tape measure cover in felt, with individual colours and designs. Of course mine is the red one. They are so incredibly cute.

School and work have finished for another year. We are on the South Coast for Christmas, a welcome opportunity to relax and recharge.

Happiness is.........

...........the beginning of six months long service leave! DH is taking six months leave for some long overdue R&R. I'm hoping that his days will include a little bit of cooking and cleaning, because I will still be at work. Maybe he will take up patchwork???

I have had a lovely day stitching in the garden at Cassilis with Raelee and Kylie. A small group today, but still so relaxing. Kylie worked on her B&C hexies, Raelee was finishing off some cross stitching and I finished a DJ block.

Happy Friday.

Spoiled

It's not hard to stay on a fabric diet with blogging friends. I received a lovely variety of red and text fat quarters from my birthday fat quarter swap group this week. The girls outdid themselves with their selections......thank you!

And some more from others who know me well........how gorgeous is the basket that Lea made for me?

My most precious gift came from Mr 13. A tiny clay glazed rabbit made at school. He measures about 1 1/2" long and is a lovely addition to my collection.

We had another lovely stitching day at Cassilis today. Scrumptious food and wonderful company again.......and photos forgotten. Raelee had her Toes in the Sand top finished. You will have to take my word for how good it was, great blues and teals.

Kylie from Red Raspberry Quilts was there too, she is a fine saleswoman and sent out a well timed email this week with the new Kathy Schmitz range of reds.........since it was my birthday I think it's technically a birthday gift to myself not a broken fabric diet.

And I finished binding The Simple Life.

So it's been a happy and busy week here.........I'm hoping to spend some time tidying my sewing room and finding a place for my new treasures over the weekend.
Happy stitching.

Cassilis stitchers

Another much needed sewing day in Cassilis yesterday. Five of us this time.......an early start to the chookshed party.

There's Lea, Kylie, Raelee and our newbie, Bev. Everyone was working on some kind of EPP, lots of beautiful projects to enjoy. I was working on a secret project. Kylie's vignette coming together.

Raelee's hexie flowers for her Victoria border........how cute is her mini iron.

And Lea working hard on the hexie bag for her next class. Not sure who her friend is. Happy Birthday for Monday Lea. X

Bev was working on some quilt as you go hexagons for a bag from Lea's class in beautiful rich fabrics.

So it was a wonderful day of stitching, and very good for the soul. No one really wanted to go home!

Off to work this morning, but definitely some stitching in my weekend after that.

Happy stitching.

FNWF and Cassilis

It has been a whole Friday with friends today. You can visit Cheryl to see who else joined in.

We had a great day of stitching at Cassilis, complete with pouring rain, and a visit to the historic Royal Hotel. Built in 1869, it has just reopened to the public, so we enjoyed a glass of wine with our lunch (which created a few wonky stitches!). Raelee, Lea, Julie and Kylie.

Raeleewas working on her Violet quilt. Isn't the centre gorgeous.......and more fabulous borders to come.

Julie put the final stitches in her daughters new quilt. Beautiful fabric choices.

Kylie was busily stitching one of Rosalies lovely designs, and I was working on an Irish Circles block.

Hope you find a moment to stitch over the weekend.

Road trip

I spent a lovely Friday with Lea and Julie (still no blog) in Muswellbrook. After a guided tour of Lea's amazing house we settled down to some stitching. Silly me didn't take a photo of the sweet elephant baby quilt that Lea is working on, or of the necklace that Julie was rethreading after a mishap with a preschooler.

We had a great lunch at Milkwood Teahouse. Lani was a generous hostess and we enjoyed having the place to ourselves.

I have been wanting to visit Finders Keepers for some time. Imagine a combination of your favourite gift shop, a Maxwell Williams store, and some of the brightest fabrics you've seen. It was almost too much for this repro, rustic girl! Just a couple of small purchases, I absolutely love the red fabric.....Blitzen by Moda.

And to prove that I did actually do some stitching yesterday I have another Irish Circles block finished. I am still struggling with colours for the blocks in this quilt. I'm not sure if this green one will make the cut, will see how it looks laid out with the others.
Hope you find some time to stitch over the weekend.

Cassilis Stitching Day

What a beautiful day we had in Cassilis yesterday. The weather was perfect, and Linda set our table up under a lovely shady tree.

One of the locals is obviously a fan of vintage cars. They were so well kept. I wish I could borrow one as I'm going to a Great Gatsby themed ball tonight.......would have looked very flash arriving in style!

Julie had a special quilt made up of her Dads ties for show and tell. It's hard to see in the photo but the bow ties made from ties really sparkled in the sun.

Lea's "forgotten" quilt........almost finished.

I was working on a redwork Christmas stitchery, and another Irish Circles block.Yes that is a layer cake of Midwinter Reds in the background, delivered by the lovely Kylie. I think I might put it in my Christmas stocking.

We have just had a sudden downpour of rain and hail, a blackout, and 17mm of rain......makes for a quiet Saturday afternoon.

Enjoy the weekend.

A lovely day out

We had another fun stitching day at Cassilis yesterday. As always Linda had the cakes and coffees at the ready, and a scrumptious lunch prepared for us.

Lea had this beauty to show off, and was working on an adorable hexagon baby quilt featuring Liberty prints.......which I didn't take a photo of. Lucky baby!

Julie (no blog......yet) was binding this quilt for a another lucky baby. She has made some very cute matching bibs too.

Raelee was working on her Legacy to Violet quilt....so many hexies and diamonds in the borders.....and oops, no photo.
I was happy sitting in the sunshine working on my Irish Circles centre, and playing with 3/8" hexies.

Thank you girls for a relaxing day, perfect to begin the school holidays. I'll leave you with a photo of the canola just outside Cassilis.

Have a happy weekend, I'm heading off to the farmers market and more busking!
