What Happened to My Vacation?
I'm taking the evening off from blogging; I'm worn out. After a solid week off from work (Thanksgiving break), it took less than two days to wear me down again. It's not my job so much but more of a "not enough hours in the day" thing. I'm back to running 12 solid hours every day and by the time I get home, this week anyway, I just want to collapse.
Yesterday after school I had to take mom to the eye doctor; today I had a meeting at 7, one at 7:35; classes until 2:15 where I'm trying to convey the excitement of Julius Caesar to sophomores, then back out to get mom's glasses, back across town to the pharmacy (where only one of two prescriptions for mom was ready); this required a forever wait in line. Then into another forever line to pay for dinner groceries. From there, to mom's to drop off the glasses and meds - and thank goodness for my brother who is living there now and tending to her meals and household chores.
Tomorrow, another meeting - this one from 8 to 9 (no planning block for me tomorrow!), classes all day, then mom's errands (cigarettes, pharmacy, grocery store, liquor store), then finally home again to fix dinner. I mean, I work 8.5 hours every day just like everyone else, and I know everyone is over scheduled, but dang! I'm worn out!
So. Instead of my bitchin' and bloggin', I'm going to refer you to this over at The Dead Pelican about Bobby Jindal's plummeting popularity.
Or maybe you'd like to know what Professor Jacobson thinks about "trolls."
But don't miss The Other McCain's post on nutjob Keith Olbermann.
And don't miss Jennifer Rubin's farewell at Commentary and do check out her new digs at The Washington Post.
Somebody go poke Bride of Rove; I don't like it when she's quiet. She's still kicking around in the comments so I know she's there....
And when you finish with all THAT, go shopping! And thank you so much to those of you that have already been shopping! You ROCK (this makes it all better)!

I Survived Clapton
Meanwhile, the past 24 hours has been a crazy news cycle which I have totally been unable to blog on and my sitemeter is in the cellar. The cellar of the cellar, actually.
I'm going to unpack, regroup, and then get back to blogging.
By the way, Clapton was awesome!

Rule 5 Sunday and Linkage
It's been a busy news week and I was too busy to blog much, so here are the links and posts that kept me going and informed all week.
The ever witty Stacy McCain has the latest on Ted Rall turning on Obama. Seriously, Ted Rall! Babalu blog also weighed in on the subject.
No Sheeples Here has a lovely post on Cary Grant. I *heart* him! So suave!
How do you feel about cookies for terrorists? Gateway Pundit will clue you in.
The Daley Gator has a post on Mancow's faux waterboarding.
Fausta shows you how to determine what your glass-hold says about your personality. What kind are YOU?
Donald Douglas looks at Sotomayor on the issues; she's a "disaster," he says. He's also got some Mary Louise Parker Rule 5 action. Jimmie at The Sundries Shack also has a great Sotomayor post.
Snaggletoothie had some neat pictures this week; I loved the pictures of his neighborhood here, and I also loved the old Chesterfield ad pictures. That's what my mom continues to smoke, believe it or not. Gag.
Legal Insurrection warns of the "stealth nominee" which makes for interesting reading.
Suzanna Logan wanted to be a porn star? Oh well. If you can't spell, what other options are left to you?!
TrogloPundit weighs in on global warming and overpopulation. He's also got some hot Angie Rule 5 action.
Little Miss Attilla has the greatest post on the White House silencing dissent policy. If anyone could make me laugh on THAT topic, she did!
Senator Cornyn wants us all to SHUT UP! See what Doug Hagin has to say at Not One Red Cent!
Bride of Rove has had it with Team Obama. In fact, she'll tell you, "Monty Python is in the White House." I tend to agree.
Texas Rainmaker sounds off on the Black Panter story (with video).
Doug Ross has fantastic coverage of the DealerGate story.
SaberPoint has a post on Rush Limbaugh and self censorship that you should read. He makes a good point about Republicans and the Hispanic vote.
That should keep you going for a bit.

My Favorite Beatle
On this day in 2001, my favorite Beatle died of lung cancer. While all my friends swooned over Paul, I loved George.
Here's one of his fun videos:
And by the way, if you ever doubted the science of genetics, check out Dhani Harrison:
This is Dhani and my man Eric Clapton (did I tell you I LOVE Eric Clapton?) playing my favorite George song at the Concert for George one year after his death. Just seeing all these guys on stage together for George is so awesome, given the story. (By the way, Patti Boyd did not attend) The money shot for me is right about 6:01 when Dhani walks over to Eric and thanks him. If you don't get chill bumps somewhere along the way, you don't have a pulse. Watch it. Turn it up LOUD!:

Turn it Up Loud!!!!!!!!!
I recently got into a kind of discussion with someone about great guitar players. If you know me AT ALL you know that there is no question, no doubt, not even a millisecond of hesitation before my man Slowhand comes to mind. While there are many good guitar players, there are only a few that are great, and then there is Clapton.
My earliest memory of Clapton is the old Derek and the Dominoes; I was probably in middle school. Elks club swimming pool. Jukebox. Coppertone and chlorine in the air. Sweat, sun, and Layla. Over and over.
Through the years I've listened to a LOT of Clapton and lots of versions of Layla. Clapton did so much more than Layla that is great but this particular song is so fine to me because I have alternately through the years closed my eyes and listened to ... just the guitar....just the piano...just the lyrics....and it's all great. GREAT. Each version highlights some little sublime shift, some gentle new turn. The unplugged version is great; the studio version is great, the various live versions are great.
I offer then this version for you to watch. My heart skipped beats at 0.00, 0 :44, 2:58, 4:13, 4:34, 5:18, 6:02, 6:20, and 7:02.
