34 things :: tea time

one thing i absolutely must have every day is a cup of tea. nothing fancy, i grew up drinking tetley orange pekoe tea, and while there are now many others i also love, that is truly my daily cup. all of these goodies would be a perfect gift for someone i know. ahem.

34 things :: some art i like

sharing some art i've quite liked over the past while. i think it would be fun to have a huge wall of indie art, don't you? i've got a few pieces already, these are some i'd love to add to my collection.

twenty eleven

the lights of my life! it's been a long year full of many ups and downs, but still an amazing time watching these two grow. i took these photos january 1 2011. i'll be sure to snap a few tomorrow to see how they've changed.
as for me, i'm looking forward to a year full of growth. we have some potentially big changes in store, and i'm also looking at ramping up my little business throughout the year. i have big plans for smidgebox! first up, back to more regular postings in this space.

here's to 2012 -- happy new year, friends.

shift

now, these aren't as blatantly gold as what i shared yesterday, but they all have hints, and they are all a small step away from what i normally gravitate towards. lighter, brighter, fun. i'm enjoying the shift, seeing where my eye is drawn these days.

oh, and just because i can't get enough of pamela tang, i have to share this dress. love.

what about you, do you find your tastes change and evolve? do you tend to follow trend, or just stick with your tried + true?

seesaw.

i've got a little bit of a letterpress crush on seesaw designs right now. just saw these fresh new cards on their blog today, and i'm totally smitten. i especially love the 'hooray for you', those yellow circles are perfection.

i am also coveting one of the 2011 calendars. love the amazing textural patterns paired with metallic ink. brilliant. if i don't win one in their giveaway, i do think i'll be treating myself to an early christmas gift. head on over here to enter. or maybe not, it'll lessen my chances!

if the kiddos are going to be cozy in this chilly weather, then i want to be, too...

but if all else fails and we end up inside, i'd like to be curled up with this throw, please.

heath ceramics :: backsplash inspiration

my head is spinning with images of tiles + countertops + faucets + hardware + flooring. oh, my. as always, there are loads of amazing designs over at heath ceramics. such beautiful tile. i will have to keep dreaming, but i can certainly take my cue from the inspiration, right?

and, i know it's not a kitchen, but i love this palette + tile layout. sublime.

huset :: an ode to scandinavian lovelies

i just love scandinavian design, don't you? the sleek lines, retro motifs, and spectacular bold colours. huset is definitely my current fave spot to ogle gorgeous scandinavian offerings. i'm also smitten with their styling, they make everything look so bright + inviting. i'll take one of everything, please!

::::

i was first introduced to huset some time ago by my good friend molly. you have probably heard me mention molly around here before, and it is because every time she recommends something, it is bang on. she has amazing taste in art, and has introduced me to many of my new favourite artists + etsy shops. a couple weeks back when she mentioned wanting this isak bread board [city version pictured above], i told her it is one i also covet for myself, and have given as a gift in the past. to this, she replied, 'we are like two peas in a pod'. i agree! if we lived closer, i know we would be fast friends.
anyhow, i mention molly today, because i haven't shared this lovely post she wrote about my goodies a while back. molly ordered a daily tote + peek-a-boo pouch from me, and was kind enough to share it with her readers. i am absolutely thrilled that she loves it [yay!] and hope it gets lots of pool-time this summer! thanks for the kind words, molly :)

decisions

planning a pretty exciting purchase for the fall, when we redo the kitchen. i've dreamt of this for so long, and i must say i'm going to have a rather hard time waiting! still need to make the absolute final decision, though i am almost totally sure of what it will be. pretty easy to guess, no?

saffron summer

summer needs a bit of a kick in the pants in these parts. we woke up today to grey skies, once again. i know it's my favourite colour, but not in the sky. that's supposed to be blue. this dress would help brighten things up, don't you think?

plum pretty sugar

i love loungewear, and it doesn't get much prettier than the romantic offerings at plum pretty sugar. i came across this shop some time ago and bookmarked it immediately, then was reminded of it yesterday over on modish {check out the awesome giveaway!}. i thought i'd best share it here for romance week!

:: thanks everyone for the wonderful anniversary wishes yesterday. we had a lovely evening out [wow!] and enjoyed ourselves immensely ::

en promenade

these are just a few of the many many things i'd like to get from madewell, to pack with me when i jet off. where to, you ask? why, to france, to hang out with my friend sabine, drink cafe au lait, eat delectable pastries, and walk through the countryside in the glorious sunshine. bliss!

:: this, of course, is a fictional trip for now. someday, when renos are over and time is on our side, i do plan on doing these very things, and enjoying them immensely ::

this little blog

why do i blog? i've been thinking about this a lot this past couple of weeks. there are many reasons. what started simply as a place for me to catalogue my finds, and talk a bit about my work in between, has become a real hobby + a true love for me. it's like my nightly therapy as i sit here and toodle around the web, thinking about what i'd like to post, narrowing my choices, finding just the right products, designers, artists, places to feature, just the right pictures to show. i really love it. and after just a little over a year, i can't even imagine not writing here nearly every day.
fete print :: cosas minimas by blanca gomez [i love all of her work!]

a few weeks ago, i was delighted to find myself included on a shortlist of blogs written by moms living in greater vancouver. i hope people don't see me as an impostor on that list! i am not a mommy blogger. i don't write about parenting! this is my place be away from that. while i do mention the kids here + there, i need this place to just be me, a woman, undefined by my identity as a mom. you know when you're at the park, and the other moms know you as "o's mom"? isn't that amazing, how you go from being your own self, to your childrens' mama? please understand, i am not complaining!! i love it. i just find it fascinating. and i do it myself! i can't even tell you how many times i remember the child's name before the parents'.
i wonder if that is a factor of getting older, or perhaps it's that dreaded 'mommy brain' we all talk about while pregnant!

printed ceramic bowls :: horn of plenty :: available at room6

i am not saying that i don't enjoy reading about other people's parenting or mothering. i do, often! heather of dooce, whose no-holds-barred discussions on parenting makes me laugh day after day. gabrielle of design mom [who is expecting baby number 6 - amazing!], who eloquently posts about where design + motherhood intersect. amanda of soulemama, whose graceful + honest + gentle approach to parenting makes me strive to be a better mama. there are so many others out there, so much inspiration, so many amazing mothers.

vancouver mom is looking for what they call the 'ultimate' vancouver mom blogger. i am beyond honoured to be included in their shortlist, and even more thrilled that people have gone out of their way to visit me here, really read my blog, and decide whether or not they'd like to vote for me. are you visiting here for the first time? i'd love it if you'd say hello. and if you like what you see here, i'd love for you to come back, or tell a friend!

if you're feeling so inclined, i'd be so very happy if you'd cast a vote for me. today is the last day the polls are open, and the results will be announced on mother's day. how apt! thank you for all the support, i really appreciate it.

the photos i've included in this post are things that i've got on my current wishlist. perfect for mother's day, don't you think? perhaps my husband is reading...
