34 things :: some art i like

sharing some art i've quite liked over the past while. i think it would be fun to have a huge wall of indie art, don't you? i've got a few pieces already, these are some i'd love to add to my collection.

royal mint

i love exploring new-to-me shops that i discover through the people in my circle on etsy. it is fun to see what others have discovered in the vast expanse of etsy shops, it is simply impossible to imagine that you could see it all, there is just SO much.
i was pretty blown away by the incredibly detailed miniature characters made by sabina of royal mint. they seem practically alive, their facial expressions and body language are simply spot on. sabina's photography is perfect, too, and just helps to bring these little guys to life. i am completely smitten by mr badger. isn't he fantastic? {in case you were wondering, yes that pun was intended.}

special big thanks to local-vancouver-designer-extraordinaire melanie kimmet, who is always finding amazing + fun things on etsy. you should definitely add her to your circle. {her paper goodies are pretty awesome, too.}

city prints by albie designs

i absolutely love these city prints by portland artist kim of albie designs. the colours are amazing, i love the yellow + orange that figure heavily in her palettes, whether they're bold or more subdued. gorgeous.

really wish there was one for vancouver, i'd snap it up in a second. maybe she'll visit here someday and be inspired to make one. i can always hope!

redstar ink

i've always really like the rustic simplicity of kraft paper or card, so it's not surprising that i'm drawn to these simple + smart notebooks by redstar ink. i think the twenty twelve planner might have to come home with me, it's clever layout and clean design appeal to the organizer in me.

make sure to check out all the great chevrons and other graphic patterns on cards, notebooks and gift tags. i love the modern + bold design.

in haus press

these sweet letterpress offerings from in haus press are tugging at my heartstrings.

i love the idea of tiny monogrammed notecards. perfect for those little notes to say hello. i think the arrow letters {bottom} are divine.

shop sneak peeks

a little peek at what is to come when i reopen my shop later this week.

i'm rather fond of the fabric combination below. the outside oslo fabrics by jessica jones are some of my new favourites. so gorgeous! i was tempted to keep this one for myself, but into the shop it will go.

i had intended to reopen on the weekend, but the weather has been very uncooperative, and i haven't had the chance to photograph all my new things. it looks like we've got a stretch of sun coming up starting tomorrow {fingers crossed!}, so i will plow through these photos and try to stock up a little before i open my virtual doors. i hope you'll swing by to check out the shop once it's ready!

effortless style

sometimes there's a line of clothing that you feel just gets the way you want to dress, or which encompasses the impression you want to make with your attire. for me, it's pamela tang. i love everything she makes, everything she designs. the precisely folded pleats, together with a more casual shaping of elastic thread and gathering. it's the combined feeling of casual + natural + effortless chic. the rumpled linen. the bold earthy colours dotted amongst neutrals. even her product photography speaks of the almost effervescent, whisper of chic. i love it all.

i've posted about pamela tang before, and i've no doubt i will do it again. love, love.

ibby and rufus

these awesome embroidered wood chevron pendants caught my eye today as i was browsing etsy for goodies for a later post. i'm so glad that i happened upon ibby and rufus, a fresh + unique jewelry shop out of atlanta.

it's always a happy day when i come across something that makes me stop and take a closer look. also, who doesn't love a good chevron? the sunburst {below} is pretty cool, too. bravo, ibby and rufus!

cityscapes

i adore these skyline prints by chicago artist erin burke, found in her sweet etsy shop, yard sale. the combination of muted and bold colours give off a bit of retro appeal, and the linear focus of the illustrations is just right. i love them!

lemon + teal art wall.

images via shops as listed below, clockwise from top left.

rounding out my love for lemon + teal this week is a sweet selection of affordable art, all from my fave shopping stop for great unique art prints. {etsy, of course!} it's fun to imagine an art wall in a select colour scheme. what do you think -- would you hang a whole art wall based around a single colour or theme?

i spy a polar bear

i've been dying to share these little buckets with you since I sent them off a few weeks ago, and now's the time! i first 'met' laurie wisbrun of scarlet fig quite a while ago, when i discovered her adorable digitally printed fabrics, birdies + chairs. laurie has come a long way since then, with a few more limited release digital collections, two fabric collections with robert kaufman, and a book on the way this fall.
i was delighted when laurie asked if i would make a few of my peekaboo naturals buckets with her latest digital prints, polar bear dots. i think the little bears look so sweet, offering their posies from inside the peekaboo. i love them so much, i've tucked some away for my next holiday collection. i'll have to see if i can wait that long!

the two medium buckets will be making their home at laurie's place in austin, but we thought it would be really fun to offer a mini bucket to one of our lovely readers. i've found that this small size is quite versatile, from office supply storage to kids' small toys to collecting tiny mittens in the winter! if you'd like to join the giveaway, head on over to laurie's blog, comments are open until saturday morning. good luck!

winter time

snow. something we rarely see this early here in vancouver, softly falling from a crisp grey sky. winter is here.

cast in a golden light

lately i've been finding myself drawn to sweet, delicate gold jewelry. i have always been a silver gal, but i'm loving the warmth + glow of yellow gold. perfect right now as we head towards some much cooler weather. maybe i need some of these to keep me warm.

chilly weather, cozy knits

it is decidedly cold here today, and i've got knits on my mind in an effort to keep warm. is there anything cuter than a baby wrapped in cozy hand-knit goodness? i think not.

thank yous on a rainy friday

fall has begun in earnest here in vancouver. the leaves are changing, the clouds are rolling in, and the rain has started falling. i don't mind the rain, myself. otherwise why would i live here? it's incessant rain that i don't like, so let's hope this showery weather only sticks around for a day or two...

i thought i'd take a few minutes to pop my head in here and say thanks to some lovely folks who have posted about my work recently. i wouldn't be doing what i'm doing if it weren't for the wonderful and supportive people in the community. the people who buy handmade, showcase indie artists, and support one another. so thank you!!

wonderful bridgett of perideau designs, who wrote about my new peek-a-boo naturals collection here. have you seen her delightful muslin bags? so so cute. and her latest project, personalized placemats. they are awesome! way to go, bridgett!

jan of poppytalk posted an adorable roundup of hallowe'en items from the poppytalk handmade marketplace last week. thanks for including my treat buckets! and, how stinking cute are those crocheted hats by sweetpeatoadtots? ridiculous.

saffron, marigolds. the weekly tote.

i have been lucky enough to have had two of my totes included in the etsy finds email + storque post in the past month {here + here}. both times, my shop has just gone nutso, so big thanks to etsy for the helping hand! the mod pink pretty has gone off to australia, while saffron, marigolds was shipped to winnipeg this week. {i had an especially hard time parting with the saffron, marigolds. it is lined with one of my all-time fave fabrics, of which i hardly have any left...}
thanks also to baby gadget for posting about my fabric buckets today. and another fan of that saffron tote, thanks to the apron thief for choosing it as one of your etsy daily finds this week!

and lastly, thanks to all of you, who have come by to read my blog, which has sadly been a little neglected these past couple weeks. i'm still working on getting into the swing of our fall routine. i'll be back here more often before you know it!
