This Selling Thing - a Circle of Blessing...

I am feeling wonderfully blessed.  My weekend was full of this...

...lots of wares-selling at our sweet summer cottage during
the community's annual porch sales.

Yard sales (or porch sales in this case) are LOTS of work.  Even more so
when you're trying to keep track of inventory to keep Uncle Sam happy.
But a day of meeting wonderful folks and getting tired merchandise
off my hands is so worth it and a favorite event of mine.
It was a delightful day!

And now its back to the real world - with lots of this...
Orders are headed out today from the Etsy shop.
Selling online can be lots of work too.  But wrapping all of the
parcels is a favorite part of the process for me.

Thanks to each of you who came out in person on Saturday and who are
buying treasures online from Etsy.  You bless me!  Know that I
take seriously the responsibility to in turn bless others.
What a privilege.  ~Joyce

Organizing Inventory Unearths Forgotten Treasures for Thrifty Thursday...

If you sell vintage or antique goods like I do - you know the
challenge of keeping your inventory from becoming a mess.
Today I focused on cleaning up some drawers of 'smalls' and
unearthed some forgotten treasures...such as these blown glass cherries!
hand blown glass
Available here
To help organize the smallest smalls - I wanted a small tray or basket.
I spied this basket that came with something from a yard sale
last year - still wrapped and unopened...

It was covered in white paper and I didn't realize what was underneath.
And look - it's a little gift set with cellophane, tissue paper and a
metallic bow.  I'll keep those for another day -
today I just need the basket for my drawer.

Thrifty Tip #1 - It pays to focus again on your 'stuff'.
You may have overlooked something!

So while working in my drawers I came upon these old
Sunday School cards.  Love 'em & in the shop they went!
Bible Story Cards
Available here
AND - (again I hadn't paid much attention when I originally
brought them in the house) - this trade card was in the mix.
It is signed or autographed by the company owner on the back!

Some things in the drawer got pulled out and given a new photo shoot.

Thrifty Tip #2 - if you're a seller it pays to update your photos on occasion...
Available here

My drawers of smalls are full - but it's all very available...

Lastly -  I pulled out a few pretty things to use in my own
home decor.

Thrifty Tip #3 - Decorate with your finds till they sell.
Makes for 'free' home decor!
(If they're not in danger of being ruined that is.)

Lady Photo available here & Baby Motto available here

I love playing with 'stuff'.   It's just plain fun for me.

What may you have in your stash that you've forgotten about?
Good chance you already own something you were thinking of buying.
Go make a discovery!   ~Joyce

Industrial Boho Modest Boutique - My Saturday Sightings...

Went exploring on a Mother/daughter day today.
There's this boutique in our county with a reputation for cute,
affordable modest clothing.  Turns out - it is housed in this barn...
(which was the first clue this was gonna be good.)

Two words - 'Oh my!'...
Modest Clothing Store

If there's an industrial boho style - this was it...
Main Street Exchange

It was fabulous - with wonderful fixtures and accents...

Sweet modest dresses...
Main Street Exchange, Blue Ball, PA

...accessories...

...lots and lots of jean skirts...

...and just a feast for the eye in every nook and cranny.

Prices for the most part were great.
Much better than the same thing would be in any other store.

And still - there was a sale room!

And here's the special part.
Not only is this shop a doable 45 min. drive for me...
modest clothing shop
It's doable for you too!  Cause many of the pretties
are available right here on their website.

Nope - not a paid advertisement.

Go send them some love and enjoy a truly modest
and cute boutique! ~Joyce

Thrifty Thursday - Clear Out and Sell...

My post today is a no-brainer... but sharing anyway.  None of us are the
same people we were 10 years ago... or 20... or (you get the idea).
So there's a good chance we have stuff in our collections that
aren't really 'us' anywhere.  Case in point...

No - not the china cupboard - I'm keeping that (inherited from my parents).
But inside - it is loaded with treasures that have become a mess...

...and some collectibles that don't really go with my mostly
'neutrals' room anymore.

See what I mean?  See all the 'pink' transferware dishes?
I'm not collecting these anymore and not really doing 'pink'.

It's time to clear out and see if maybe I can even sell some of these.
So stay tuned for a hopefully revised and cleared out 'china cupboard'.
And the first transferware piece has been added to my Etsy shop.

And while I'd love to paint my china cupboard... I'm pretty sure my
family would be deeply offended.  So guess I'll keep it as is.
(And it does add a little color to my living room.)

Clear out the old and donate or sell it.
That's my Thrifty Tip for today.   ~Joyce

Doing an Outdoor Vendor Show - What To Take...

Tomorrow (Dec. 19th) - I'm doing an outdoor Christmas vendor show.
I thought I'd share with you what I take along to these events.
Also - here are the details so that you can come on out and say
'hi' if you're in the South Central PA area.

In addition to the basics one might think of - I always use tablecloths.
They set the stage for the 'look' that I am going for.  For this show -
I hope to do a rustics and country theme - thus the plaids and red
trimmed beige fabric.  I also plan to do a more neutrals and elegant  table -
so I threw in some creamy white lace.

The rest of my checklist includes:  Plenty of cash and small bills,
my Paypal Here device (to take credit cards), bags, clipboard and pens
(to keep track of sales), extra tags, string, marker and scissors,
promo cards and a banner with my name...

I'm also taking wooden crates for the back of my tables
(provided by venue - but I'm taking an extra one).  I'll place a
wooden shutter on these to create a shelf.  And since it is
Christmas - I'll add fresh greens here and there - thus the bucket...

Everything is tagged (tagging takes the longest!) and packed in the
truck and ready to go for tomorrow AM.  I allowed myself this
whole week to get ready.  Some people do not tag their
merchandise at a flea market - and that is easiest -
but many shoppers dislike asking a price - so I tag.

Additionally - think about weather gear (coats?) and a canopy
(I'm going without one this time) and lunch if needed.
Oh - and if you can get help - do!  My Love is coming along -
in fact he'll do most of the loading & unloading for me while I 'display'.
I dare say - I couldn't take do this without him .
I'll need to buy him lunch for sure.
Wish me well and would love to meet you!  ~Joyce

When Following God's Leading Doesn't Go As Planned - a New Venture...

Recently I blogged about moving into a new antique mall.
I loved my space and the timing was perfect.
Sadly - after 2 months... I was losing too much money and didn't feel
I could continue hanging on until there could be a turnaround.
But I had felt God was in it - what do I do with that?

Well....during those 2 months - a girlfriend of mine who loves to go
to auctions but has never been a 'dealer' decided to move in too.
She took a big room and is so excited about this new
venture in her life - a welcome diversion for her.
And turns out she's a 'natural' - as I knew she would be.
So perhaps following God's leading was just a stepping stone for me
and a big boost for a friend...
Maybe...

Just as I gave my notice that I'd be moving out - I received notice
from another local mall that they now had space for me.
Really?  Wasn't expecting that!  And just in time for the holidays!

It's a challenging space - with no walls.  But a quick trip to an auction
(there just 'happened' to be one down the road the very week I needed one)
yielded a tall dresser that will provide a wall illusion.
The dresser begins my booth - the little blue legged table is the end.

Once you're in the 'booth' itself - it does feel cozy...

I have big things in place - 'smalls' will come later this week hopefully...

And where might this new mall be?  It's the  Quentin Antique Shoppe.
It's super cute in a sweet little village (perfect for taking a stroll)
with a very nice historic restaurant right across the street.
And did I mention the owners are a delight?
Love her front Fall display...

How will I do here?  Again - don't know.  But I'm just loving this
journey and all the lessons and encounters along the way.
Stay tuned... we'll see how this goes...
and visit the shop's Facebook page!!

Selling At An Antique Show - What I Learned...

Last weekend I set up at my first outdoor show.  It was a Fall Festival
on the grounds of a local tourist attraction.  The event didn't start till
10 AM - allowing for a reasonable set-up time...yay!

Here are some things I learned...

1. Be discerning about the show itself...

       - Are there other major events happening in the area on the same day
that may contribute or draw away from the show?
Contributing is good...  drawing away is not....

      - Research what the show & crowds were like in previous years
 - preferably asking a former vendor
(unless this is the first year for the show).

 2.  A canopy is great!
It gets people out of the sun for a more pleasant shopping experience.
(I borrowed mine this go-round.)

3.  Friends may stop by.  While visiting -  stay engaged with the shoppers.
Otherwise - they will walk on by.  It's a natural inclination to not interrupt.

4.  A color theme makes for an attractive booth.  i.e. - white and neutrals....
lots of furniture and woods....  lots of textiles... etc.

I tried to incorporate greens with primitives since my banner was green
(default color due to it being the only card stock I had on hand).
It worked somewhat but could have been better in my opinion.
Still - I received many compliments which warmed my heart.

5.  Incorporate seasonal items
I had primitives for fall and also some Christmas.
Yes - some Christmas sold!

6.  Set up your stand at home and take pictures to refer to
when setting up at the show.  Saves a lot of time & stress.
(Especially for first shows - succeeding shows may go easier.)

7.  Accept credit cards if you at all can.  We got this free device for our phone.
And even though the show was small - we used it!

8.  Just have fun and relax... trust your instincts.
Much of what I thought ahead of time to do was right!

9.   Enjoy the show and mingle with other vendors.  Contacts are great!
They may lead to future shows, sales, friends, etc.

My booth happened to be right next to the goats... loved that!
Would I do it again?  It was a lot of work - but also a lot of fun!
Depending on the time and place - I just may... ~Joyce

Prepping To Sell At An Outdoor Show...

This weekend will hold a first for me - at least of this caliber.
I'm planning to set up at an antique market at a local fall festival.
 How am I getting ready?

First - I cleared by calendar for the week...
I didn't want to have 'rushing' added to my stress.
It has worked and I feel on schedule!

Second - I decided I wanted to do a little advertising...
something to set my booth apart.
So I made a simple banner that will hang across my canopy -
(which is borrowed by the way - I put out a plea to my facebook friends!)

It's made from card stock in a funky green -
the only card stock I had on hand (picked up a long time ago).
So I'm 'going with it'... (the green that is...)
I added an oval shaped dictionary page (joined 2 half circles together to make a template).
Then stenciled my letters and filled in with marker.

I'm happy with it!

And I printed up some cards to have on hand to point people to the blog
and ultimately my Etsy store, etc.

Third- I set up my 'booth' in my garage so that I could work at
arranging it and know how much merchandise I needed, etc.
No sense just 'winging it' when I'm scurrying to set up on location.
Then I priced each and every item... yeah - that took a while.
(this is just a small portion of it...)

Fourth -  I packed everything up into boxes in conjunction with
where they will be laid out on the tables.
There's a primitive area, a linens area, a Christmas area, etc...

And one final detail - I made a few swags to hang from the corners of my canopy.
I checked my drawer of ribbon and sure enough - also a long time ago,
I picked up this orange roll for cheap.  That'll work!

Now - what's on my list to take with me tomorrow?

Tables, chairs, canopy, umbrella and stand (for sitting under),
gourds (to scatter throughout the goods), paper banner and cards,
leaves swags, calculator, bags (wish I had more!), money,
clipboard to keep track of goods sold (to update inventory later), lunch,
my new Paypal Here credit card swiper (just in case someone has no cash)
and some Christian booklets to have on hand to share my faith if opportunity arises.
Am I missing anything?  Guess I'll find out...
Wish me well ~ Joyce
