A New Hardware Design for PSB Kicker Magnets (KSW) for the 35 mm Transverse Painting in the Horizontal Plane / Feliciano, Luis (CERN) ; Bracco, Chiara (CERN) ; Ducimetière, Laurent (CERN) ; Fowler, Tony (CERN) ; Gräwer, Gregor (CERN) ; Noulibos, Remy (CERN) ; Sermeus, Luc (CERN) ; Weterings, Wim (CERN) ; Zannini, Carlo (CERN)
The changeover from Linac2 to Linac4 in CERN’s injector chain will allow increasing the injection energy into the PS Booster from 50 MeV to 160 MeV. Transverse phase space painting will be performed in the horizontal plane, by means of four stacks of four KSW kicker magnets. [...]

Linux-based PXIe System for the Real-Time Control of New Painting Bumper at CERN / Pimentel, Marco (CERN) ; Carlier, Etienne (CERN) ; Chanavat, Christophe (CERN) ; Gharsa, Thierry (CERN) ; Gräwer, Gregor (CERN) ; Magnin, Nicolas (CERN) ; Voumard, Nicolas (CERN)
In the framework of the LHC Injectors Upgrade Project, the new connection from Linac4, injecting a 160 MeV H⁻ beam into the Proton Synchrotron Booster (PSB) requires a set of four slow kicker magnets (KSW) per PSB ring to move the beam on a stripping foil, remove electrons and perform phase space painting. A new multiple-linear waveform generator based on a Marx topology powers each KSW, allowing adjustment of the current discharge shape with high flexibility for the different beam users. [...]

Commissioning and Results of the Half-Sector Test Installation with 160 MeV H⁻ beam from Linac4 / Mikulec, Bettina (CERN) ; Aguglia, Davide (CERN) ; Allica Santamaria, Juan (CERN) ; Baud, Cedric (CERN) ; Bracco, Chiara (CERN) ; Burger, Stephane (CERN) ; Guidoboni, Greta (CERN) ; Jorat, Louise Olivia (CERN) ; Martin, Christophe (CERN) ; Navarro Fernandez, Araceli (CERN) et al.
During the Long Shutdown 2 (LS2) at CERN in 2019/20, the Proton Synchrotron Booster (PSB) will undergo a profound upgrade in the framework of the LHC Injector Upgrade (LIU) project involving also the connection to the new Linac4 injector. The 160 MeV Linac4 H' injection entails a complete replacement of the PSB injection section, including a stripping foil system, injection chicane, an H⁰/H' dump and novel beam instrumentation. [...]

Deployment and Commissioning of the CERN PS Injection Kicker System for Operation with 2 GeV Beams in Short Circuit Mode / Kramer, Thomas (CERN) ; Ayala Cintas, Nuria (CERN) ; Borburgh, Jan (CERN) ; Burkel, Peter (CERN) ; Carlier, Etienne (CERN) ; Ducimetière, Laurent (CERN) ; Feliciano, Luís M C (CERN) ; Ferrero Colomo, Álvaro (CERN) ; Fraser, Matthew A (CERN) ; Govertsen, Leif A (CERN) et al.
Within the framework of the LHC Injector Upgrade (LIU) project, the feasibility and design of an upgrade of the existing CERN PS proton injection kicker system have been outlined in previous publications already. This paper describes the adjustments of final design choices, testing, and deployment as well as the validation and commissioning of the new 2 GeV injection kicker system. [...]

The new injection region of the CERN PS Booster / Weterings, Wim (CERN) ; Bracco, Chiara (CERN) ; Jorat, Louise Olivia (CERN) ; Meddahi, Malika (CERN) ; Noulibos, Remy (CERN) ; Van Trappen, Pieter (CERN)
During the Long Shutdown 2 (LS2) at CERN, the new Linac4 (L4) accelerator will be connected to the PS Booster (PSB) to inject 160 MeV H$^−$ beam into the 4 superposed PSB rings. In order to achieve this, we have designed, built and pre-assembled a completely new H$^−$ charge-exchange injection chicane system, with a carbon stripping foil unit to convert the negative hydrogen ions into protons by stripping off the electrons. Stripping Foil Displacement Unit Control for H⁻ Injection in PSB at CERN / Van Trappen, Pieter (CERN) ; Noulibos, Remy (CERN) ; Weterings, Wim (CERN)
For CERN's Linac4 (L4) Proton Synchrotron Booster (PSB) injection scheme, slices of the 160 MeV H⁻ beam will be distributed to the 4 superposed synchrotron rings of the PSB. The beam will then be injected horizontally into the PSB by means of an H⁻ charge-exchange injection system using a graphite stripping foil to strip the electrons from the H⁻ ions. [...]
