So today is the 20th anniversary for Pokemon and I wanted to share my personal experience with the franchise!
I am one of the people that played Pokemon since it’s initial release and it’s crazy I still find myself playing this game. I’ll never forget when I got sent a promotional VHS (yes, VHS) from Toys R Us promoting this new game from Japan. I was really into my sega genesis at the time, but upon watching this VHS, I was hooked. All I remember is seeing what I know now as “Snorlax” and losing my shit as a 7 year old. I knew that I had to have this “Pokemon.” Mom and Dad took me to go buy the game and we got myself Pokemon Blue (because I assumed that was my best chance for getting a Snorlax. Remember how he was on the back of the box? Well I looked at Blue first and just thought, “shit, this all makes sense. pokemon blue, he’s blue.” anyways…). I didn’t even own a Gameboy at the time. My neighbor Caitlin would always let me borrow her old huge gray gameboy and that’s how I freaking played Pokemon Blue. I picked squirtle and never looked back.
