Provinces o Bulgarie

In 1987, durin the Communist regime o Todor Zhivkov, the destricts wur consolidatit intae nine muckler provinces (oblasts), whilk survivit till 1999.[1]
Ilka province is namit efter its caipital. In the case o Sofia Province an Sofia Caipital, Sofia is the caipital o baith, but its territory is anerlie includit in Sofia Caipital.
The provinces are further subdividit intae 264 municipalities (община, obshtina).

In 1999, the auld destricts wur restored, but the designation "province" ("oblast") wis kept. The nine muckle provinces are leetit below, alang wi the pre-1987 destricts (post-1999 provinces) comprisin them.
