Description

AIRBAGVORRICHTUNG FÜR EIN KRAFTFAHRZEUG SOWIE HIERMIT AUSGESTATTETES KRAFTFAHRZEUG  AIRBAG DEVICE FOR A MOTOR VEHICLE AND A MOTOR VEHICLE FITTED WITH IT
The present invention relates to an airbag device for a motor vehicle according to claim 1 and to a motor vehicle equipped therewith according to claim 6.
In known airbag devices located in motor vehicles, a gas-emptied airbag or airbag is filled with a gas by means of a gas generator. The gas-deflated state of the airbag can be regarded as a first operating state, the gas-filled state of the airbag as a second operating state. When the second operating state is assumed, the airbag is frequently supported against at least one support element located in the motor vehicle, for example an instrument panel, a headliner, a door lining or a seat element, in order to be able to assume its desired geometry.
Now there is an increasing desire for motor vehicles with comparatively flexible interior spaces. For example, there is a desire for small instrument panels or even no instrument panels at all, since this leaves more space for vehicle occupants compared to the known prior art. The problem arises here that the support elements required in known airbags are too small to to develop a support function for an airbag, or even completely omitted.
It is an object of the present invention to solve the problem mentioned.
This object is achieved by an airbag device according to claim 1. Advantageous refinements are specified in the associated subclaims.
The airbag device according to the invention for a motor vehicle has at least one first airbag and at least one second airbag. Each of the two airbags is gas-emptied in a first operating state representing an accident-free use of the motor vehicle and gas-filled in a second operating state representing an accident situation. It is provided according to the invention to fill both air bags with gas at the same time or in succession in the event of an accident in the motor vehicle. In the partially or completely filled state, the first air bag supports the partially or completely filled second air bag and optionally holds or guides it. Thus, an occupant of the motor vehicle involved in an accident can crash into the second airbag in a manner known per se, which is precisely guided by the first airbag and stabilized in its position. Advantageously, the airbag device according to the invention provides a generally dedicated and temporarily acting support means for the vehicle occupant, which takes up comparatively little space in the motor vehicle in an accident-free situation, but is designed as a gas-filled, stiffness-increasing and load-absorbing means in the event of an accident.
The gas required is advantageously generated by a gas generator, which can be designed as a pyrotechnic gas generator, cold gas generator or hybrid gas generator. Triggering the gas generator takes place on the basis of at least one crash sensor which is known per se and is operatively connected to an on-board electronics of the motor vehicle which are also known per se.
The first airbag or second airbag provided according to the invention can be formed from any suitable material. This material is particularly preferably a polyamide or a polyethylene terephthalate. Furthermore, the two air bags (or any other air bags) can advantageously be made in one piece or, if they are made in several pieces, can be connected to one another in a material, non-positive or positive manner. In particular, it is possible to weld the first airbag and the second airbag together.
According to an advantageous embodiment, the airbag device according to the invention is set up such that the volume of the first airbag and / or the second airbag changes in any spatial direction when the second operating state is assumed.
A particularly simple construction of the airbag device is advantageously achieved if the first airbag has a hose or is designed as a hose.
According to a preferred embodiment, the mechanical strength of the first airbag which is in the second operating state is greater than the mechanical strength of the second airbag which is in the second operating state, as a result of which the stabilizing effect of the first airbag is advantageously further improved in favor of the second airbag.
In principle, the first airbag and the second airbag can each have separate gas generators or can be operatively connected to them. In In such a case, the two airbags can be fluidly separated from one another, so that they can advantageously be filled with gas separately from one another. Alternatively or cumulatively, it is possible to provide at least one gas channel which is set up to conduct gas from the first airbag to the second airbag. In this case, the two air bags are fluidly connected to one another, so that the two can advantageously be filled further or better coordinated or controlled. In a further advantageous manner, the gas channel can be operatively connected to a valve means with which the gas introduction process from the first airbag into the second airbag can be controlled even better.
According to a preferred embodiment, the second airbag has at least one gas outlet means through which the gas can escape after a defined period of time from the airbag device according to the invention, which is inflated in an accident situation. The gas outlet means can in particular be designed as an outlet valve and / or in the form of defined openings in the outer skin of the second airbag, through which the gas exits peu-à-peu. Alternatively or cumulatively, it is possible to provide at least one gas outlet means in the first airbag; in this respect what has been said before applies adequately.
In a particularly advantageous manner, the second airbag is designed as a head airbag, side airbag or knee airbag, so that accident-specific requirements can be taken into account in a simple manner.
The above-mentioned object is also achieved by a motor vehicle which has at least one airbag device of the type disclosed above. The advantages shown apply adequately. The airbag device according to the invention can be located at any suitable location in a motor vehicle, in particular on an end wall of a motor vehicle body. A detailed, non-prejudicial, in particular restrictive, description of exemplary embodiments of the present invention is given below with reference to the attached figures, which are not to scale. The gas generators 50 and 55 are operatively connected to a crash sensor and on-board electronics (not shown in each case), so that when an accident is detected, one or both of the gas generators 50 and 55 generate gas with which the first airbag 40-1 and second airbag are used 40-2 of the airbag device 40 or the first airbag 45-1 and the second airbag 45-2 of the airbag device 45 are filled with gas within milliseconds.
FIG. 1B shows the two airbag devices 40 and 45 in a second operating state. Specifically, an accident situation is shown in which the two gas generators 50 and 55 have generated gas (not shown) due to the action of a load F in accordance with a frontal crash of the motor vehicle 1 in such a way that the first two airbags 40-1 and 45-1 crash are filled. Part of the gas in the first two air bags 40-1 and 45-1 is discharged through a gas channel 40-3 and 45-3 into the two respective second air bags 40-2 and 45-2. So that the respective internal pressure caused by the gas in the two respective second air bags 40-2 or 45-2 is lower than in the two first air bags 40-1 or 45-1, a gas outlet means 40-4 or 45-4 arranged, which can be designed as known per se with airbags Vents. Overall, the two are Airbag devices 40 and 45 are thus set up in the event of an accident in such a way that the respective first airbags 40-1 and 45-1 serve as support means for the two second airbags 40-2 and 45-2, which in turn form a front body area of a respective, person in the driver's seat 30 or passenger seat 35 (not shown in each case).
FIG. 2 shows a further embodiment of the invention in the second operating state in a simplified side view. An airbag device 40 is attached to an end wall 15 of a motor vehicle 1, the first airbag 40-1 of which is filled with gas (not shown) by means of a gas generator 55. Gas flows through a gas channel 40-3 arranged on the upper side of the first airbag 40-1 into a second airbag 40-2 which is welded to the first airbag 40-1 and is designed as a head airbag, such that a head of a not shown in FIG the motor vehicle 1 accidentally injured person. Here too, the first airbag 40-1 serves as a support for the second airbag 40-2, which is designed as a head airbag.
Bezugszeichenliste According to this exemplary embodiment, a further airbag 60, which is designed as a knee airbag and is formed from five chambers 60-1, is located below the first airbag 40-1. The airbag 60 is acted upon by a gas generator 65 which is independent of the gas generator 55 and which is not shown here. The chambers 60-1 are fluidly connected to one another by means of gas channels 60-2, so that the gas generated by the gas generator can completely fill the airbag 60. The airbag 60 is not connected to the first airbag 40-1 or second airbag 40-2 in the first operating state. Rather, it is separated from these, but is designed such that it nestles against the first airbag 40-1 when filled. In this case too, the first airbag 40-1 serves as a support for the airbag 60 designed as a knee airbag. Reference symbol list
