Abstract
A series of multi use funnels are designed to attach by threads or pressure fit (21 and 22) to a variety of threaded or non threaded fill openings (12) of bottles or containers. Two or more concentric female threaded or friction engaging connectors (21 and 22) are located at the discharge opening of the funnel. The innermost connector (21) is the smaller or smallest and each size is graduated outward therefrom. A secondary funnel (23) is located inside of the innermost female threaded connector (21) to direct fluid into the attached container below the junction of the top of the bottle of the container and the first threads. A sealing annular ring or step (24 and 25) is located at each connector portion. Single diameter versions are shown as well as slip-on versions for use with threaded, snap-on or straight sided bottle filling openings.
Claims
1. A funnel adapted to fit over fill openings of containers of potable liquids comprising a unitary body generally including a tapered portion having an enlarged fill opening and a smaller discharge opening and a portion engaging the discharge opening of the tapered portion without tipping or leakage; said engaging portion having outer generally cylindrical wall for extending over a container fill opening; said connection portion including an inner wall which engages the container; said inner wall of the connection portion terminating in a sealing rim for engagement with the top of a container at its fill opening; whereby the funnel may engage a container in the region of its fill opening and seal with a surface at its fill opening.

A funnel in accordance with Claim 1 wherein said engaging portion includes an outward extending portion defining the sealing rim and a downward extending tubular portion defining the portion engaging the container when in use and isolating the engaging portion from the flow path of liquid through the funnel. 15
3. A f nnel in accordance with Claim 1 wherein the inner wall of said engaging portion is threaded with threads of the fill opening of a container having a threaded fill opening.
4. A combination in accordance with Claim 1 wherein said funnel is a unitary molded plastic body.
5. The combination in accordance with Claim 1 having a plurality of generally coaxial connection portions for engagement with a plurality of different size fill opening containers.
6. A funnel for transferring fluid to a container having a circular fill opening therein and means for securing a cap on said fill opening comprising: a unitary plastic body having a tapered portion with an enlarged fill opening and a constricted throat; a container engaging portion adjacent to said throat, said container engaging portion including an integral sealing rim for sealing with a container in the region of its fill opening and dimensioned and configured to engage and seal the funnel at a container fill opening.
7. A funnel in accordance with Claim 6 including a secondary funnel communicating with said throat and 16
extending beyond said throat within the engaging portion to direct fluid into the fill opening of a container to which the funnel is attached and spaced from the engaging portion of the funnel.
8. A funnel in accordance with Claim 6 including a plurality of concentric container engaging portions whereby said funnel may be attached to a plurality of different size fill opening containers.
9. A funnel in accordance with Claim 7 wherein said secondary funnel and said engaging portion define an integral sealing rim; thereby said secondary funnel directs flow through said funnel into the container and away from the sealing rim formed between the funnel and the container.
10. A funnel in accordance with Claim 8 wherein each engaging portion included a sealing rim therein for each of said different size container fill openings.

STATEMENT UNDER ARTICLE 19
Review of the prior art found and reported in the international search shows that applicant's invention is distinct in several respects. The invention is unitary resulting in a lower cost, and includes fewer crevices and the like so that there is minimum of danger of contamination of potable liquids. It may be repeatedly reused on either single size containers or of at least two different size container openings.
Moreover, the funnel is actually secured to the container by friction or threads totally outside of the fluid flow path. The funnel is securely attached so that there is no danger of tipping or spillage between the funnel and the container. There is positive engagement of the funnel outside of the neck of the container and sealing around its upper edge all in a unitary structure.
