Be it known that I, CHARLES W. Dons- WORTH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Longbeach, in the county of Les Angeles, State of California, have invented cer tain new and useful Improvements in Ironing-Tables; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to ironing tables, and more particularly to that class which include but a single support of their own and are adapted to be supported partially by an other table or a shelf, and it is the primary object of my invention to provide a novel means for locking the ironing table to such other table or shelf by merely swinging down the support which is carried by the ironing table.

Broadly speaking, the invention consists in mounting upon the under side of the ironing table a bar which is adapted to receive between one of its ends and the under side of the table, one edge of a table or shelf and to clamp the said edge of the table or shelf by the swinging down of a support which is hinged to the under side of the ironing table and which includes legs which are connected by a beveled cleat, which cleat rides upon the adjacent end of the bar and seats in a cutaway portion therein when the support is swung downwardly and past a vertical plane and serves to securely lock the support against folding up.

ends by means of a block 14 having a beveled lower edge 15. This block is hinged as at 16 to the plate 11 and the legs comprising the support are therefore foldablc in one direction against the under side of the table top 10.

Secured upon the under side of the table top adjacent its opposite end and extending the entire width of the same is a metal plate 17 and hingedly connected with this plate is a bar 18. The hinged connection just mentioned is made by pi-(widing upon the plate 17 a pair of spaced aperturcd lugs 11) between which the bar 18 is received, there being a pin 20 engz'rged through these cars and through the said bar. This connection of the bar 18 with the plate 17 is had near the rear end of the bar and is of such construction that this end of the bar is sufficiently spaced from the under side of the table top to receive the edge of a table or shelf thercbetwecn and the said top. This bar 18 extends forwardly to a point adjacent the forward edge of the plate 11 and that edge of the bar which opposes the underside of the table top is cut away on an incline as at 21 and shouldered as at 22, this portion of the bar being extended directly beneath the block 14.

It will now be understood. from the foregoing description taken in connection with. the drawings that when the support conipriscd by the legs 12 is swung down, the lower edge 15 of the block 1 1- will ride upon the cut-away or inclined portion of the bar 18 and cause the opposite end of the bar to move in the direction of the under side of the table top, thus clamping the edge of the table or shelf therebetween and. the said top. It will also be observed from a perusal of the drawings that when the support has been swung down to the greatest possible degree, what will then be the forward face of the block 1 1, rests against the shoulder 22 and the beveled edge of the block will rest tlirectly upon the inclined portion. 21, it being understood that by reason of these facts the support 12 is held against accidental folding. By reason of the fact that the lugs 19 are formed directly upon the plate 17, there is no likelihood of this hinged connection being separated as would he the case if the hinge was connected directtv with the board itself.

What is claimed is A device of the class described comprising a board, a cleat secured upon the underside of the board, a support including spaced diverging legs, a cleat connecting the legs at their upper ends, said cleat being hinged to the cleat upon the underside of the board and having its lower edge beveled between the legs, the support being adaptable for free forward swinging movement past the vertical plane occupied by its hinge, and a bar pivoted adjacent its rear end upon the board, the upper face of the bar adjacent its forward end being cut-away to form a shoul der which is presented upwardly and in ad- Vance of the hinge for the support whereby when the support has been swung forwardly past the vertical plane occupied by its hinge, the cleat connecting the legs of the support will abut against the shoulder upon the bar and rest flat at its beveled lower edge against the upper face of the bar.
