SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 377,356, dated January 31, 1888.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, LEWIS EVANS, a citizen of England, residing at Belswains, I-Iemel- Hempstead, in the county of Herts, England, have invented a new and useful Seat Convertible into a Table, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to the construction of a seat or chair in such a manner that it can be readily converted into a table, as I will de scribe, referring to the accompanying drawlugs.

Figure 1 is a side view showing the position of the parts when they constitute a seat or chair. Fig. 2 shows their position when they constitute a table.

A is a base or frame, of any convenient form, having an inclined limb, B, projecting up from it. To the upper end of this limb is hinged, by a pin-joint at G, a bar, F, on which is fixed a flap or board, D. In the position shown in Fig. 1 this board forms the back of the seat, and in the position shown in Fig. 2 it forms part of the table. To the lower edge of the board D is hinged another board, E, which in the position shown in Fig. 1 forms the seat, and in the position shown in Fig. 2 forms the other part of the table. To the bar F isjointed, by a pin at G, another bar, H, which, as shown in Fig. 1, is held in line with F by a sliding catch, K, but which, when D and E are unfolded at their hinges and turned upward, along with the bar F, to the horizontal position shown in Fig. 2, is disengaged from the catch K and is turned down to act as a strut, 5 its lower end engaging in a catch at L. Thus the bar F is supported at O and G, and on it in that position rest the boards D and E, forn1- ing the table.

Having thus described the nature of my in- 40 vention and the best means I know for carrying the same into practical effect, I claim- A seat or chair convertible into a table, consisting of the base A, with its limb B, the bar F, jointed to B, the strut H, jointed to F, the 45 board D, fixed to F, and the board E, hinged to D, with the catches K and L, substantially as described.
