Description

No. 838,282. PATENTED DEC. 11, 1906.
. G. F. TAIT. CURTAIN POLE AND CURTAIN FASTENER.
APPLIOATIOR FILED MAY 3,1908.
THE NORRIS PETERS coJwAsnmarun, DV 6.
GEORGE F. TAIT. OF MCDONALD, PENNSYLVANIA.
CURTAIN-POLE AND CURTAIN-FASTENER- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented .Dec. 11, 1906.
Application filed May 3, 1906. Serial No. 314,998.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE F. TAIT, a citizen of the United States, residing at McDonald, in the county of WVashington and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Poles and Curtain-Fasteners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it .appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. V
This invention relates to an improved curtain-pole and it comprises apole with means whereby the curtains may be attached thereto, together with the certain details of construction and combination of parts, as will be fully described hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved curtainpole and means for fastening the curtains thereto, a part of which is broken away, said pole and fastening device being constructed and arranged in accordance with my inven tion. Fig. 2 is an enlarged end sectional elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detailed side elevation of one end of the pole, showing the eccentric in released position.
To construct a curtain-pole with means for attaching the curtains thereto, I provide a cylindric pole 1 of a suitable length and fit the same with ornamental ends or caps 3. Formed along the entire'length of the pole 1 is a groove 2, which is adapted to receive a fastening-strip 4, which consists of a thin strip of wood or other suitable material of a length almost equal to that of the pole 1, the said fastening-strip 4 having at each end reduced ortions 6 and one or more sawkerfs or s ots 5, which extend from the ends inward and are adapted to break the rigidity of the strip or bar at these points. At either side of the groove 2 and at points near each end of the pole 1 are placed screw-eyes 7, the one set of eyes directly opposite to the other. Loosely connected to each set of screw-eyes is a link 8, having eccentrically connected thereto a small disk 9, fitted with a handle or short lever 10, the said eccentric disk adapted to engage with the reduced end 6 of the fastoning-bar 4.
To attach the curtains 11 to the pole 1, it is only necessary to place the same over the top, and when said curtains have been adj usted to the proper position the bar 4 is partly inserted in the slot 2, forcing the curtains therein. The ends of the bar 4 are attached to the pole by passing the links 8 over the reduced portions 6 and the said bar pressed tightly in position by revolving the eccentric 9 by means of the lever 10 to the position shown at Fig. 1 of the drawings. The slotted ends of the bar 4 will permit the fastening of various thickness of curtains, due to different styles of folding.
Various slight modifications and changes may be made in the details of construction, and the parts may be ornamented and made attractive. Therefore I do not wish to confine myself to the exact construction shown and described, but wish to claim all such modified forms as would come properly within the general scope of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is'
1. A curtain-pole and curtain-fastener, comprising the pole 1 having a groove along its length, the bar 4 adapted to engage in said groove, links 8 carrying eccentrics 9 attached to said pole and at either end thereof, said eccentrics adapted to engage with the ends of said bar and clamp the same, whereby an intervening curtain may be clamped to the pole.
2. A curtain-pole and curtain-fastener, comprising the pole 1 having a groove 2 along its length, the bar 4 adapted to engage in said groove, slots 5 formed in the ends of said bar, links 8 carrying eccentrics 9, attached to said pole at points near each end thereof to engage with the slotted ends of the bar, whereby an intervening curtain may be clamped between the bar and curtain-pole, as described.
In testimony whereof I aifiX my signature IVitnesses:
FRANK V. ATKINSON, WM. MAnewrcK.
