Description
(No Model.) OHMIDT.
' GHATELAINE. No. 601,725.
Patented Apr. 5, 1898.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SOPHIA ZEUGSCHMIDT, OF ALLEGHENY, PENNSYLVANIA.
CHATELAINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 601,725, dated April 5, 1898. Application filed May 5, 1897. Serial No. 635,137. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SOPHIA ZEUGSCHMIDT,"
a citizen of the United States, residing at A1- legheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented or discovered new and useful Improvements in Ohatelaines, of which the following is a specification.
In the accompanying drawing, which makes part of this specification, the figure is a perspective of my invention attached to the belt.
The object of my invention, generally stated, is to provide a convenient chatelaine or receptacle for such articles as are in constant use by a saleslady, seamstress, or person of like employment and must necessarily be kept convenient and at hand.
It consists, broadly, of a novel arrangement of compartments for scissors, pencil, and pin-cushion or store-book pocket.
The following is a detailed description of my invention:
1 and 2 are two strips, to which is attached piece 3, preferably rectangular. Strips 1 and 2 and piece 3 may, if desired, be cut as an integral blank. The upper extremities of strips 1 and 2 are bent back on themselves and fastened, forming loops 4 4:, through which may be passed belt 5. If preferred, piece 3 may be cut with acute base-angles, thus causing strips 1 and 2 to intersect above piece 3, at which intersection the device may be attached to the belt 5 by a pin or chatelainehook.
6 is a pocket formed in one of the strips for the reception of apair of scissors, while on the other strip is fitted pencil-pocket 7. These pockets are preferably made by sewing a piece of the same material on the face of the strip, said piece being of slightly less breadth at the bottom than at the top. 4 I
On the face of piece 3is attached piece 8, preferably tapering from the top and forming pocket 9, which is fitted to receive a pincushion or shop-book, according as my invention is used by a seamstress or saleslady. This pocket, being made tapering, does not require a pin-cushion large enough to fill the entire pocket, but a shallow one will be held firmly in place at the mouth of the pocket by the inclination of the sides thereof.
Having described my invention, what I claim is- In chatelaines, the combination of a frame suspended from a belt, and consisting of two downwardly-extending strips of material and 5 5 a third piece of material interposed between and attached to'said strips; a pocket on each of said strips, and a third pocket on said intermediate piece.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 24th day of April, A. D. 1897.
SOPHIA ZEUGSCHMIDT.
