A further object of the present invention is to provide a purse which can be carried in the hand when desired and which is also provided with several compartments including a compartment closable by a slide fastener for paper money or valuable papers and also an open compartment for lesser valuables as well as a compartment for lipstick, compacts and similar articles normally carried in a purse by a woman.

A further object of the present invention is to provide a purse in accordance with the preceding objects which is simple in construction, easy to assemble and disassemble, adapted for its particular purposes and relatively inexpensive to manufacture.

These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure l is a perspective view of the shoppers purse of the present invention mounted on a belt, there being illustrated the relationship in which the supporting loops bridge a belt loop for locating the purse in the desired position;

Figure 2 is a front elevation of a purse with a portion of the front panel folded down illustrating the compartmented construction of the purse;

Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken substantially upon a plane passing along section line 3-3 of Figure 2; and

Figure 4 is a transverse sectional view taken substantially upon a plane passing along section line 44 of together by stitching 24. The upper end portions of the panels 22 and 20 are continuous and provided with a central cut-out 26 defining a pair of mounting straps or loops 28 which are positioned over the belt 12 by merely inserting the belt through the loops 28. It is noted that the cut-out 26provides aspace or area for the belt loop 18 whereby the belt loop 18 being disposed between the loops 28 and being secured to the trousers or skirt or dress 16 will prevent movement of the purse 10 along the belt 12 thereby holding the purse in the desired position.

The front panel 22 is provided with a transverse slitlikc opening 30'which is closed by ahorizontally disposed slide fastener construction 32 thus forming a compartment between the panels 20, 22 for valuables such as paper money or other valuable papers.

Disposed in overlying relation to the front panel 22 is a forward panel 34 having its bottom edge coincidental with the bottom edges of the panels 20 and 22 and secured thereto by the stitching 24 with the side edges of the panel 34 extending upwardly to a point above the slit opening 30 and being also secured by the same stitching 24. The top edge of the panel 34 is reversely bent and formed with a double hem secured in position by stitching 36, this hem being disposed above the slit 30 thus normally concealing the slit 30. The distance between the side edges of the forward panel 34 may be slightly more at the top than at the bottom so that the top hemmed edge of the forward panel 34 will normally be spaced slightly outwardly from the front panel 22 thus facilitating access into the enlarged open compartment existing between the panels 22, 34.

Also supported on the front panel 22 and between the front panel 22 and the forward panel 34 is an intermediate panel 38 having its bottom edge stitched to the front panel 22 by stitching 40 and the side edges stitched,

to the panel 22 by the stitching 24. The center of the panel 38 is stitched to the front panel 3t] along a vertical row of stitching 42 and the upper edge of the panel 38 is also provided with a hem 44 secured by stitching 46. Thus, two pockets are provided within the receptacle formed between the panels 22, 38. The hem 44 is disposed below the horizontal slit 30 with the transverse distance also being greater than the transverse width of the front panel 22 thus providing two open top receptacles for receiving articles such as lipstick, change, compacts, or the like.

With the present construction, there is provided a closable receptacle with an entrance slit 30, a pair of smaller receptacles normally concealed and an enlarged receptacle formed by the forward panel 34 thus providing adequate storage space and carrying space for all the articles normally carried in a womans purse, this purse being supported against the body and adjacent the hip region of the wearer and located in this region so that the same will be accurately positioned at all times.

The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described,-and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed as new is as follows:

1. In a belt supported purse, a vertically disposed and substantially flat purse body formed from a single blank of material doubled upon itself to provide inner and outer juxtaposed panels integrally joined by the fold of the blank at the upper edge of the purse body, stitching securing together the bottom and lower side edge portions of said panels whereby to form a compartment between the lower portions of the panels, the intermediate portion of the outer panel being provided with a transverse slit forming an entrance for said'c'ompartment, the doubled upper edge portion of the purse body forming blank being provided with a central recess open at the top thereof and the upper side edge portions of said panels being detached from each other whereby portions of said panels at opposite sides of said recess provide a pair of transversely spaced belt receiving loops.

2. The device as defined in claim 1 together with a front panel substantially coextensive with said lower portions of said juxtaposed panels and secured thereto at its side and bottom edges by said stitching, the upper edge of said front panel being detached from the juxtaposed panels and the front panel coacting with the juxtaposed panels to provide a'pocket.

3. The device as defined in claim 2 wherein the upper edge of said front panel is spaced upwardly from said slit whereby to conceal the entrance to said compartment.
