I (No Model.)
T. L. HAMILTON.
PLOW. I
No. 541,747. Patented June 25, 1895.
Witnesses: Inventor.
UNITE STATES PATENT OFFIC THOMAS L. HAMILTON, on SUMNER,
D. SMITH, on ASHBURN, GEORGIA.
ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO HENRY PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 541;747, dated June 25, 1895.
Serial No. 540,342. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS L. HAMILTON, of Sumner, in the county of Worth and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flows; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improved plow;
and the object of the same is to provide an improved adjustment of the beam; and a further object is to provide an improved device for securing in position the wings or sweeps.
With these objects in view my invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the plow. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the lower portion of the same with the parts detached. Fig. 3 is a detailed view of the wing holder.
A designates the beam and secured to its forward end are the rearwardly extending handles B from which depend the brace rods 0 to the stock D. The rear portion of the beam is curved as indicated at A and at the head of said curvature is arranged a series of adjusting bolt passages E to any one of which the upper end of the plow stock may be secured by means of bolts F. The said curved end of the beam is of the same curvature as the two members of the stock D and at the base of the beam a pivotal bolt G is projected through the same and the stock which forms a permanent connection. The series of adjusting openings E is arranged concentrically with the said bolt G so that the stock may be adjusted on the beam as will be readily understood. Byforming the stock of the two fiat members as shown a most compact and strong implement is provided which is very simple and not liable to getout of order. The said stock is formed preferably of one piece of metal looped at its lower end as shown.
For holding any desired form of sweep or wing to the stock I provide the improved holder H, the same consisting of the backwardly and downwardly extending side portions I having the centrally depressed and looped portion J which is adapted to extend between the sides of the stock at its. lower end and there be secured by the bolt K extending-transversely therethrough as shown. By this arrangement the holding device is most securely fastened to the beam and forms a ready support for the desired form of implement to be used.
Having thus fully described my invention, what'I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The combination of the beam having its rear end curved downward, the stock D formed of a single piece of metal doubled upon itself and having the same curvature as the beam, the pivot connecting the upper ends of the stock piece to the beam, the latter depending between the sides of the standard, a means for adjusting the standard on the beam, the lower loop end of the standard spread or enlarged laterally, and a sweep holder confined in said enlargement, substantially as shown and described. a
2. The combination of the beam, the double stock secured thereto and looped and enlarged at its lower end, andthe sweep holder. having the backwardly extended flattened loopJ confined in the enlarged lower end of the standard, substantially as shown and described.
a sweep holder, and a backwardly depressed flattened loop J therein forsecuring the holder to the stock, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS L. HAMILTON.

3. The combination of a beam, astandard,
