NITED STATES kPATENT Orricn.
JOHN THOMAS SENTENEY, OF BLOCKSBURG, CALIFORNIA.
PLOW.
SPECIFICATION formi-ng part of Letters Patent No. 352,936, dated November -23, 1886. Application tiled J une 24, 1886. Serial No. 206,130. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN THoMAs SENTE- NEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Blocksburg, in the county of Humboldt and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear,- and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specication.
My invention relates to an improved sidehill plow; and it consists in novel features, more fully hereinafter set forth, claimed, and shown in the drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a section on the line x w of Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a side View, and Fig. 4 a detail view, of the catch.
The plow comprises the beam A, the reversible share B, and handles O, of well-known l construction and arrangement.
The vstandard I) has an arm, `D', branching upward and rearward from the lower end.-
The lower end of the handle is connected with the upper end of the arm, thereby mutually bracing the standard and handles. The reversible share B is pivoted to thelower end of the standard in the usual manner, to be adjusted from one side of the beam to the other. The arm D' is provided with a pin, d, which projects laterally on each side for entering openings ain the landsides B', to give a greater stability to and fix the position of the share. A double catch, E, pivoted midway its ends within a keeper, F, secured to the beam, engages the landsides near the points and holds the share in either adjusted position. Springs f, interposed between the bottom of Vthe keeper and the catch and located on each side `of the pivotal point of the catch, normally hold the latter in position to engage either landside -and keep the end'adjacent thereto in positive engagement. A plate, G, interposed between the under side ofthe beam and the" top of the standard, has points g projecting on each side edge of the share is caught when adjusted.
That side of the pin d farther removed from` the pivotal support of the plowshare is convexed or curved on the arc of a circle having the pivotal point for its center, to permit the openingsd in thelandsides to readily pass over it Without any binding. v
'Ihe catch may be arranged to engage any part of the plowshare other than the landside; but it is preferred to have it work as shown and described, as it is more efficient and economical in co'st. The springs f are preferably heldin place by lugs projectingfrom the bottom of the keeper, as shown.
I am aware that reversible plows have been held in each position by a double spring-catch secured to the beam, and do not claim such, broadly.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, vand desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s- ,l
l. 'Ihe combinatiomwith the standard having an arm branching therefrom, and the reversible share the landsides of which are each provided with an opening, of a pin projecting laterally from each side of the arm and adapted to enter the openings in the landside, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination of the beam, thestandard having an arm projecting upward and rearward, the handles having the lower ends secured to the upper end of the arm, and secured to the beam at a distance from the lower ends, the reversible share pivoted to the lower end of the standard, the landsides of the share having openings, a pin projecting laterally on each side of the standard-arm to engage the openings in the landsides, the double cat'ch,
and the plate interposed between the top of the standard and the under side of the beam, and having lateral projections, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN THOMAS S'ENTEN EY.
