Abstract

A LOW HUNG DOUBLE BOGIE FOR HEAVY LARGE LOADS HAS A CHASSIS FOR EACH BOGIE BENEATH THE AXLES AND RECEIVING NO LOAD. THE LOAD-CARRYING FRAME EXTENDS OVER THE BOGIES AND RESTS ON A CROSS-MEMBER AT EACH BOGIE. EACH CROSS-MEMBER IS SUPPORTED BY LATERALLY SPACED SECONDARY SQUALIZERS ARE SUPPORTED BY ENDS OF THE PAIRS OF SECONDARY EQUALIZERS ARE SUPPORTED BY CROSS-MEMBERS IN TURN SUPPORTED BY PRIMARY EQUALIZERS BETWEEN ADJACENT AXLES OF THE BOGIE AND CARRIED BY THE AXLE BEARINGS.

The load rests on two similar bogie assemblies that are interconnected. The loads here under consideration are rigid and of large dimensions such as large capacity tanks of heavy weight.
In known bogies, the working space for the load, when loaded and especially when the load has a height close to clearance height, is of necessity located between the bogies in such a way as to lower the load as much as possible and thus to reduce the overall height. However, this arrangement limits the length of the load or requires the use of widely spaced bogies which is inconvenient.
The object of the present invention is to place the SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION To this end, the present invention has for its object the structure comprising two bogies connected by a load carrying support, characterized firstly, for each of the two bogies, by a chassis providing longitudinal connection of the axles bearing and located in very low position below the level of the axles, these chassis not directly supporting vertical loads, the assembly being further characterized by the combination, for each of the two bogies, of two primary equalizers each supporting transverse frame member through a resilient connection, and resting on the axle bearings, and two secondary equalizers supported on these transverse frame members, the assembly being further characterized by a very low support for the load comprising a platform having two longitudinal beams connected by crossmembers, two of these cross-members forming transverse bearing members, one of the transverse bearing members resting at two points located in the middle of the two secondary equalizers of one of the bogies with the other resting at its middle on an axle connected to a third transverse equalizer on the other bogie, the assembly further having the characteristics that all of the contacts at the extremities of the secondary and tertiary equalizers are made through resilient or spherical connections and the load is supported in the middle of the two secondary equalizers.
In accordance with a particular characteristic of the present invention, the platform between the two bogies has, at its lowest part, a transverse member which is the support for the load. In accordance with another characteristic of the present invention, a cross-member of the platform between the two bogies is provided at its midpoint with a spherical bearing which receives a spherical pivot connected to a cradle supporting the load, the cradle having at its extremity two equalizing pads functioning, when required, to engage the crossmember of the platform.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS In order to understand the present invention, there will be described hereinafter, with reference to the accompanying drawings, a preferred embodiment of the double low hung bogie of the present invention in which the two bogies have four axles each. This preferred embodiment of the present invention is intended to be used for transporting large diameter cylinders.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Each bogie has four axles and a chassis for longitudinal connection of the axles in which the cross framework 1 connects lateral side rails 2 and 2 below the level of the axles, this chassis not participating directly in support of vertical loads. The axle bearings 3 are supported in slides allowing lateral play and vertical displacement to absorb irregularities in the track. The upper opening of each cage forming the slot is closed by a cross-member 4. The weight of chassis l is thus supported by the axle bearings.
Primary equalizers 5 and 5 are supported at each of their extremities on the axle bearings. Each group of primary equalizers 5 and 5' support a transverse member 6, contact between the transverse member and equalizers being through a resilient system.
Two secondary equalizers 7 and 7 transmit, at each of their extremities, the load to be carried by the axles. This load is transmitted to cross-members 6 by resilient or spherical bearings 8 and 8'.
The low hung rigid platform 9 is made up of two longitudinal beams 10 and 10 interconnected at support points by two cross-members 11 and 12 and disposed in the present embodiment to receive a cylindrical load.
This platform, which receives the weight of the load, couples the two bogies on which it rests at three points to permit one of the bogies to incline with respect to the other as required by curving of the truck. These three points are the two spherical or resilient contacts 13 and 13 located directly at the middle of the two secondary equalizers of a bogie and an axle 14 connecting cross-member 12 to tertiary transverse equalizer l5. Transverse equalizer 15 has at each end resilient or spherical supports 16 and 16' (FIG. 3) located in the middle of the two secondary equalizers of the second bogie.
Platform 9 is provided at its lower portion with a spherical bearing 17 connected to a cross-member 17 supporting a cradle 18 having a spherical pivot 19 and two equalizing pads 20 and 20, a space or clearance j being provided between these pads and their contact surface 21 and 21.
Equal distribution of the load on each wheel is obtained by the play of the equalizers provided in this embodiment.
Tracking on a curve is followed by an inclination of the secondary equalizers on the axis x, o, y as seen in FIG. 2 bis as required by the curvature of the rails.
One of the princiapl advantages of the invention is locating the load in the middle of the assembly of the two bogies while maintaining the overall height of the load low because of the low position of the several equalizers forming the bearings for the load.
Another advantage of the invention is the equal distribution of the load on each axle bearing by the play of the equalizers, as well as good tracking on curves by inclination of the equalizers.
It is understood that changes may be made to the above-described preferred embodiment of this invention in details and by the use of equivalent structures without departing from the inventive concept.
What is claimed is:
1. A low hung double eight axle bogie comprising two four axle bogies connected by a load support, each of said two bogies including a chassis spaced low lateral side rails for said chassis beneath the level of the four axles, said chassis receiving no vertical loads, two spaced primary equalizers extending between adjacent pairs of axles for each side of said two bogies, a transverse member supported by laterally opposed pairs of said primary equalizers, a resilient support system between each of said cross-members and each of said primary equalizers, said primary equalizers resting on the adjacent pair of axle bearings, two laterally spaced secondary equalizers for each of said bogies movably supported by said transverse members, a very low support for the load including a platform, two laterally spaced longitudinal beams forming said platform, crossmembers connecting said longitudinal beams, two of said cross-members forming transverse supports, one of said transverse supports being movably connected at two points to the middle of said two secondary equalizers of one of said bogies and the other of said transverse supports being connected pivotally longitudinally and horizontally at its middle to a tertiary transverse equalizer movably mounted on and distributing the load through said two secondary equalizers of the other of said bogies, the connections at the extremities of said secondary and tertiary equalizers being selectively resilient and spherical, said platform being mounted between said bogies.
2. A bogie as described in claim 1, said platform including at its lowest point a cross-member supporting the load.
