United States Patent Olfice 3,606,321 Patented Sept. 20, 1971 3,606,321 ELASTIC TYPE LEG EXERCISHNG DEVICE Nicholas D. Macoulis, 19231 Victory Blvd., Reseda, Calif. 91335 Filed Jan. 27, 1969, Ser. No. 801,220 Int. Cl. A63b 23/02, 23/04 US. Cl. 27273 1 Claim ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An exercising pole having a pair of elongate elastic members attached thereto. The elastic members have attached stirrups into which the user may insert his feet while in a seated position. One end of the pole is placed on the floor and the user may simulate a cycling action for controlled exercise.
My invention relates to physical fitness equipment for exercising the legs and abdominal muscles.
An important object of the invention is to provide an exercising device which is compact and more versatile than a bicycle.
A further object of the invention is to provide an exercising device which may be used while sitting on a chair or stool.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this application, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same;
FIG. 1 is a side elevation of the exercise device.
FIG. 2 is a sketch showing the manner of use.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration, is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 3 designates a tubular body portion or pole, which is preferably circular in cross section. This tubular body portion includes a top portion 4 for the attachment of elastic material, and a lower portion 5 for contact with the floor.
The numeral 6 designates an elastic material which is attached to the top portion 4 of the tubular body portion by hooks 7 or the like.
A section of the elastic material 6 contains a stirrup 8, unto which a foot 9 is placed.
The operation of the exercise device is as follows:
The tubular body portion 3 is held in a near vertical position between the knees when on chair or similar support. Both feet are placed in their respective stirrups 8. Leg exercise is then accomplished by moving the feet in a circular motion as if riding a bicycle. Abdominal muscles are exercised by holding both knees straight and rigid while raising and lowering the feet either together or alternately.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention, herewith shown and described, is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit of my invention, or the scope of the subjoined claim.
I claim:
1. An exercising device for use by a user to simulate a leg cycling action while the user is in a reclining position comprising only one pole with leg support means attached thereto, said pole having two free terminal ends, said pole being unsupported throughout its length, one terminal end of the pole adapted to rest upon a supporting surface and extending therefrom substantially normal thereto and substantially parallel to the trunk of the user and supported in such position by the hands of the user of the device, said leg support means comprising a pair of elongate elastic members attached to the pole by book means and stirrup members carried by each of the elastic members.
