f d? A TTURNEY5 PATENTEnAus 1s m SHEET 3 OF 3 ABSORBENT CROTCH PAD This invention relates to an absorbent crotch pad for use with undershirts or other suitable means for the securement of the crotch pad under the crotch of the wearer.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a crotch pad which can be attached to an undershirt,
wherein the undershirt is sufficiently long to effect the pulling of the crotch pad into the crotch area upon the extending of the genital organs through an opening of which the absorbent material surrounds.
It is another object of the present invention to provide an absorbent crotch pad of this type which can be detachably secured to an undershirt and removable therefrom when the undershirt is to be washed or cleaned and thereafter the crotch pad attached to the cleaned shirt by the snap fastener means or by a tacky tape assembly or the like.
It is another object of the present invention to provide an absorbent crotch pad formed of layers of absorbent paper with a forward backing sheet thereover of less absorbent material and wherein the sheets-of paper can be torn after the pad has been used from the relatively stiff layer of material.
This is a still further object of the invention, to pro vide an absorbent crotch pad which can be used on the body of the wearer to eliminate chafing and other discomforts and the heat pocket that is often formed in this area of a mans body, and wherein the area of the pad conforms generally to the crotch area in a tight fitting manner to soak up excess moisture and make for coolness and comfort to the wearer.
Other objects of the invention, having the above objects in mind, are to provide an absorbent crotch pad which is of simple construction, adapted for use with either an undershirt or sanitary belt, has a minimum number of parts, durable, easy to use, sanitary and efficient in use.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had tothe following detailed description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:

FIG. 7 is a front perspective view of an open undershirt in which. the padded material is contained in a detachable open member applied to the underface of the shirt.
FIG. 8 is an enlarged vertical sectional view of the detachable crotch pad and of the undershirt as viewed on line 8-8 of FIG. 7.
FIG. 9 is an enlarged perspective view of the detachable crotch area pad used with the undershirt of FIGS. 7 and 8.
FIG. 10 is a front perspective view of an undershirt, according to a still further form of the invention, in which a strip of absorbent material is attached to the underside of the undershirt to provide a looped opening therein through which the genital organs are extended to maintain the absorbent material against the crotch area.
FIG. 11 is a bottom plan view looking upwardly into the undershirt from the bottom edge thereof.
FIG. 12.is a fragmentary vertical sectional view of the undershirt, bearing the absorbent loop and as viewed on line 12-12 of FIG. 1 1.
FIG. 13 is a perspective view of a crotch area absorbing pad, similar to the pad of FIG. 9 and of a belt adapted to surround the body so that the pad can be worn separately from the undershirt.
FIG. 14 is a vertical sectional view of the crotch pad as viewed on line 14-14 of FIG. 13.
FIG. 15 is a front perspective view of a still further form of the invention in which the crotch pad can be suspended from the lower end of an undershirt and made detachable therefrom by an adhesive assembly and made up of slitted multiple paper absorbent layers, removable from the pad one at a time to provide a new absorbent layer for engagement with the crotch each time the pad is worn.
FIG. 16 is a vertical sectional view of the multiple paper pad of FIG. 15 and as viewed on line 16-16 thereof.
FIG. 17 is a fragmentary perspective view of the upper part of the multiple paper pad, with the hem of the shirt rolled away to reveal the adhesive assembly.
Referring now particularly to the undershirt construction as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, 15 represents generally an undershirt having an open neck and arm holes 16 and 17 and a front portion 18 of extra long length, adapted to be extended well below the crotch area and upon the buttocks of the wearer, so as to provide a positioning of an opening 19 spaced upwardly from the bottom edge of the garment and through which the genital organs of the wearer can be extended to place them outside of the undershirt so as to bring additional padding material 21, provided about the opening 19 to be brought to bear along with the undershirt material, upon the crotch area, of the wearer to absorb and soak up excess moisture that will have accumulated on this area of the body, particularly under heated weather conditions, so that the shirt will fit tightly in the crotch area. The underpants or shorts will still be worn over the lower portion of the undershirt and over the genital organs to provide an outside cover therefor.
The padding material about this area is extended about the periphery of the opening 19 and in order to allow for good engagement with the crotch area is formed of two double thickened absorbent cloth pieces 21 and 21" joined at one another at the top and bottom ends thereof in an overlapping manner and secured to the undershirt material about the opening by stitching 22, whereby to provide a multiple thickness of moisture absorbing material, including the material of the shirt itself, to bear against the crotch area of the wearer on the genital organs being extended through the opening 19. The portions of the absorbent material are crossed at their upper and lower ends so that the stitching is made through double thickness at the ends of the absorbent pieces 21' and 22". The lower end of the undershirt 15 has the usual folded hem 23.
In FIG. 3, there is shown a similar construction to that already described, but wherein the arrangement of the opening is provided in a short shirt so that there is no spacing between the opening of the single layer shirt material 25 and its hem 26. The shirt front portion is at least sufficiently short so that the hem 26 providing double thickness of the shirt material 25 is drawn upwardly along the sides of the absorbent layer assembly to provide a dependent pull down tab 26 and to provide additional absorbent material to the material of the absorbent layer 21 in the crotch area and under the genital organs. The same numbering as given to the absorbent structure 21 about the opening 19 as has been given to the structures shown in FIGS. 1 and 2. The absorbent pieces 21 and 22" are similarly crossed with one another as best shown in FIG. 4 and the hem 26 and more particularly the depending hem portion 26 is curved about the lower ends of theabsorbent layers to provide a doubled up absorbent portion of the hem closed upon and surrounding the lower ends of these absorbent layer pieces 21' and 21 Referring now particularly to the form of the invention shown in FIGS. and 6, 27 represents an ordinary T-shirt having a closed neck 28 and short sleeves 29 and 30. This same shirt 27 is extra long as is the shirt above described, so that front portion 31 of the shirt can extend well down over the front of the wearer of a measured distance so that the genital organs can readily extend through a rounded opening 32 in the front portion 31 of the undershirt located well above a hem 33, extending about the lower edge of the undershirt, and so that a back portion 34 may extend well downwardly over the buttocks of the wearer and in this way with the shirt being made of stretchable material, particularly laterally and about the wearer, the front portion 31 of the undershirt will be pulled against and into the crotch area of the wearer to effect an absorbing and soaking up of any accumulation of moisture thereunder.
In order to have further absorbent material at the opening 32 and surrounding the periphery thereof a tubular piece of soft absorbent cloth material, indicated generally at 34 is extended through the hole 32 in the undershirt material 31 forwardly of the front of the shirt material in a sleeve like manner and is turned back over the underface of the material 31 to provide a flange like extension 35 which is stitched around the opening 32 to the shirt material 31 and fixed by double stitching 36 inside and outside of the flange 35 to the shirt material 31. The flange accordingly provides a double thickness of absorbent material with the undershirt material 31 and the tubular absorbent piece 34, including the flange, being doubled upon itself provides a double thickness throughout its length and when taken with the undershirt material 31 provides a triple thickness of absorbent layers that will be applied to the crotch area as the undershirt is worn.
Referring now to the form of the invention shown in FIGS. 7, 8 and 9, there is shown a standard undershirt 38 having an open neck and arm openings of more or less standard lengths and provided with a pair of fastener elements 39 disposed on the front portion of the undershirt an opening from the underface of the shirt to which cooperating fastening elements 40 of a crotch pad indicated generally at 41 can be detachable snap fastened with the elements 39. These snap elements 39 are located well above a bottom hem 42 of the undershirt and which may extend down below the lower end of the crotch pad as readily seen in FIGS. 7 and 8, so that the genital organs when extended through the crotch pad 41 will be covered by the lower ends of the front of the shirt. The underpants or trunks will extend upwardly over the lower end of the shirt and the crotch pad in the usual manner.
This crotch pad 41 is made of two absorbent pad pieces joined together at their upper ends by appropriate stitching and further by means of a folded and more or less stiff and of less absorbent quality than the absorbent pieces and as indicated at 43 and in which there is secured the fastener elements 40 having the same spacing as the cooperating fastener elements 39 on the undershirt. The absorbent pieces indicated at 44 and 45 are joined at their lower ends by the same stitching indicated at 46 that is continuous and which joins the upper ends of the pieces 48 and 45 together and stitching 47 running transversely across the mounting piece 43 attaches the pieces 44 and 45 to the mounting piece 43 bearing the fasteners 40. The stitching across the mounting piece 43 is shown at 47.
The crotch pad 41 can thus be readily removed from the undershirt and a new one applied. It is preferable that the crotchpad 41 be made as inexpensive as possible so that it can be thrown away and be replaced by a new one. This crotch pad 41 also provides the opening 48 for the extension of the genital organs therethrough.
Referring now particularly to FIGS. 13 and 14, there is shown a crotch pad similar in' construction to the crotch pad 41 just described, comprising absorbent layer'pieces 51 and 52, joined by stitching 53 in the same manner as described in connection with the absorbent pad 41, but wherein there is an outer non-absorbent layer 54 serving to support the absorbent members 51 and 52 that are joined by the stitching 53 thereunder, and wherein this non-absorbent layer 54 will have the absorbent layers 51 and 52 adhered to the underface thereof. The absorbent members provide a slit 55 aligned with an enlarged opening 56 of the backing layer 54 and of sufficient size to permit the genital organs to be extended therethrough and so that its edges will have the absorbent layers 51 and 52 extending from the slit 55 adapted to be rolled outwardly over the edges of the opening 56. This same piece 54 of less flexible and of non-absorbent material is folded at its upper end upon itself and over a belt strap 57 and stitched at 58 to fix the pad to the belt strap length 57 and the belt strap will be held against being pulled through the loop provided by the folding over of the upper end of the backing piece 58 and upon being secured by rivets 59 and 60. The belt strap 57 has a buckle- like rings 62 and 63 through which belt loops 64 and 65 of a retaining belt 66 are extended. The belt loops 64 and 65 may be adjusted by belt buckles 67 and 68 respectively that are adjustable along the length of the belt 66. The belt serves to fix the crotch pad around the wearer independently of an undershirt and so that it will be retained by the belt alone. In other words the crotch pad can be retained upon the wearer either by a belt or by a shirt which provides in effect a means for the securement of the crotch pad upon the wearer.
In FIGS. 10, 11 and 12, there is shown an undershirt 71, in which the absorbent crotch pad piece is fixed to the shirt 71 on the front portion 72 thereof and just above a hem 73, and is in the form of a transverse member having its ends folded upon itself and secured transversely across the underside of the front portion 72 of the undershirt by vertical stitchings. This transversely extending absorbent piece is made of the same material as the shirt material, or of better absorbing material and as indicated at 74 with the vertical stitchings for the securement of the same to the shirt being indicated at 75 and 76 at the respective opposite ends of the transversely extending piece 74. This piece 74 when attached to the shirt provides an opening 77 somewhat in the form of a loop on the inner side of the undershirt through which the' genital organs can be extended and so that the absorbent transverse piece 74 will lie in the crotch area and thereunder. While the genital organs may extend below the seam 73 when the shirt 71 is worn, the same will be covered by the trunks or shorts also worn by the wearer. I
It should be apparent that'the crotch pad 74 can as shown be used with the crotch pad 41 to hold the crotch pad 41 in place on the inner side of the undershirt, while at the same time serving to provide additional absorbent material to that included in the crotch pad 41.
Referring now particularly to FIGS. 15, 16 and 17, there is shown a still further form of the invention in which a pad is made up of a stack of absorbent paper sheets conforming generally to fit about the crotch area and wherein one sheet can be removed at a time from the crotch pad, and further wherein the crotch pad is secured to the body and to a front portion of a shirt 81 adjacent to its bottom hem 82 by a tacky tape assembly comprising a part83 secured to the outer surface of the as shown in FIG. 17 at 89 and through these openings and the slit 88 when the crotch pad 85 is attached to the undershirt 81 by adhesive members 83 and 84 and front portion 81 of the shirt and a cooperating tacky the genital organs extended thereto absorbent paper sheets 86 would lie within the crotch area and absorb excess moisture developed thereover. Upon the innermost sheet 86 becoming absorbed with this moisture, this outermost sheet can be torn from the stack of sheets 86 and along a lower edge of a stiff member 91 wh'hth dh s'e mbe'84i se d.lfth d 35 is if) be r mcsvc d h m the unders 81, the Z11 dershirt with the tacky member :83 is pealed from the tacky member 84 in a manner such as illustrated in FIG. 17.
It should now be apparent that there has been provided by the various forms of this invention a crotch pad adapted to be carried upon an undershirt, to which the pad can be connected either detachably or securely, or the pad can be carried by a belt and can be made so that the pad is provided with paper layers which can be removed after use so as to provide a subsequent layer and in which this same paper pad is detachable from the undershirt. It should be further apparent from the use of this crotch pad that the genital organs are extended through the central openings of the pad and the absorbent layers will be drawn thereunder and into the crotch area of the wearer by the tight fitting of the undershirt, or by a belt or strap pulling the pad tight about the body.
What is claimed is:
1. A crotch moisture absorbent pad, adapted for use with an undershirt or by a strap for the securement of the absorbent pad over the genital organs and into the crotch of the wearer, said pad conforming in area to the area of the crotch and having an elongated vertically extending opening in the center thereof, through which the genital organs of the wearer are extended; an external relatively stiff backing member extending over the outer face of the crotch pad and means carried by the upper end of the relatively stiff member for the secure ment of the stiff member and the pad to a belt or to an undershirt; said means for the attachment of the pad to an undershirt, comprising a rigid plate member secured to the relatively stiff outer backing sheet, and a tacky tape assembly comprising onetacky member. secured to the rear face of the rigid plate member and a cooperating further tacky tape member secured to the outer face of the undershirt; and said absorbent pad comprising a stack of paper absorbent sheets extending under the backing member and providing openings through the center thereof, along with the backing member, and said paper members being adapted to be torn across the lower edge of the tacky tape supporting plate member one at a time as they have become used.
