IMPROVEMENT IN SATCHELS, TRAGELING-BAGS, 80C.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 199,229, dated January 15, 1878; application filed December 12, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC SOHEU'ER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Satchels, Traveling-Bags, &c., of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is afrontviewof a satchel to which my improvement has been applied; and Fig. 2 is a detail section of the same, taken through the line as m, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to improve the construction of satchels, traveling-bags, &c., in such a way that the flap that covers the outside pocket may be kept securely in place and shape, and at the same time the appearance of the satchel may be greatly improved.
The invention consists in the combination of one or more metallic straps with the flap that covers the outside pocket of a satchel or E are metallic straps, the upper ends of which are secured to the upper part of the flap B by hooks or points formed upon the upper end of the said straps E, and which hook through the said flap, or which may be secured to the flap in any other convenient way. The lower ends of the metallic straps E are slipped beneath the end plates of the fastenings C, so that the said straps may slip in and out to adjust themselves, as the pocket A may have more or less put into it, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2. The straps E may be made wide and single, as shown in Fig. 1, or two or more narrow straps may be used, as may be desired.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent In a satchel or traveling-bag, the combination of one or more metallic straps, E, with the flap B that covers the outside pocket A, and with the fastening G that secures said flap "to said pocket, substantially as herein shown and described.
ISAAC SOHEUER.
