2 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in pocketbook holding devices and has particular reference to a device for retaining a pocketbook or billfold, or similar article within the pocket, in such a manner that it cannot be removed by an unauthorized person nor can it accidentally fall from the pocket.
The principal object of the invention is to produce a device which is simple in nature and one that is economical to manufacture.
A further object is to produce a device which is constructed of relatively thin material, and therefore one which will not take up any appreciable amount of space within the pocket.
An additional object is to produce a device that permits the user to remove the billfold at any time without removing the holder.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of my device, having a portion thereof broken away,
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same, showing a portion of fabric engaged by the pin,
Fig. 3 is a cross sectional View on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary detail view on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2, and
Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmentary detail View of the purse securing button.
Ordinarily a purse or billfold is loosely positioned within the pocket, with the result that the person may lose the purse from the pocket, without knowledge of the loss, or a person may have the purse removed from the pocket by a thief without knowledge. Applicant has, therefore, devised a simple receptacle or holder which is pinned Within the pocket and into which the purse is placed. Further applicant has provided means whereby the purse is held within the holder, from which it may only be removed by a peculiar manipulation of a button attached to the purse and slidable in a tortuous groove formed in the holder.
In the accompanying drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates the holder as a whole, which holder is preferably formed of metal or similar fairly rigid material. To the rear of this holder is secured a pin 6 having a point '7 and when in use held by a hook 8. A safety guard 9 is attached to the holder 5 through the medium of a ball 11 frictionally held in a socket 12, which socket is secured to the holder 5. This guard has an end 13 which engages the hook 8 so that when the guard is in full line position of Fig. 4, the end of the pin 6 cannot be removed from the hook 8. Of course it is obvious that any other form of guard may be em-Y ployed without departing from'the spirit of the invention.
The front of the holder is provided with a tortuous slot 14, which has its upper end flared as shown at 16 and serves to slidably accommodate a button 17. This button is threadedly positioned upon a stud 18 and held thereto by a lock nut 19. The stud 18 has a head 21 which engages the inner surface of a purse 22. A threaded washer 23 is secured upon the stud 18 and engages the outer surface of the purse 22. At 24 I have shown a sliding catch, the point 26 of which may be moved across the slot 14 at a point substantially where the slot diverges toward the open end 27 of the holder.
The result of this construction is that when the holder is pinned within the garment as shown in Fig. 3, a purse may be slipped into the holder 5 which act will cause the stud 18 to be directed by the diverging portion of the slot into the tortuous portion of the slot, and then by manipulating the button 17 back and forth, the button will be moved from the dotted line position of Fig. 1 to the full line position of the ligure, at which time the purse will be fully encased within the holder and into the shape of the tortuous slot, and said purse cannot fall from the holder or be removed without notice to the user. As an added safety feature, if the user desires, the catch 24 may bev slid so that the point 26 thereof extends across the slot 14 after which it will be impossible to remove the purse without rst actuating the catch. It will be apparent that a thief could not accomplish all of these maneuvers without attracting '19 the attention of the user, and it will also be apparent that the user can perform these various maneuvers in a simple and rapid manner so that the device will not cause any delay in removing the purse from the holder.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changes relative to the material, size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted 1 to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:-
1. In a device of the character described, a holder capable of receiving a purse therein, said slot formed in said holder and communicating with the opened end thereof, the edges of said slot adjacent said open end diverging, a catch sldably mounted on said holder and capable 0f having its end projected across said slot, and a securing pin carried by the opposite side of said holder from said slot, a hook carried by said holder and adapted to engage the end of said pin whereby said holder may be positioned through the use of said pin.
