UNITED STATES PATENT CEEIGE.
DANIEL M. READ, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN POCKET-BOOK FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 183,593, dated October 24, 1876; application led April 4, 1876.
To all whom it may acera:
Be it known that DANIEL M. READ, of New York cityr and Seite, have invented an Improvement in Adjustable Fasteners for Pocketooks, of vwhich the following is a specification:
The present invention is an improvement upon that for which I have received Letters Patent N o. 174,739; and relates chiefly to the construction of the ap plate or that portion ofthe fastening attached to the strap or band encircling the pocketbook.
In accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, Figure l is a sectional elevation of the complete fastening, and Fig. 2 a plan view of the under side of th' flap-plate.
A represents the base-plate, provided with points a, B. b the hinged cap-plate, and C the spring acting upon the latter, the construction and arrangement of these parts being substantially the same as shown and described in my aforesaid patent. The oblong iiap-plate F is composed of a fiat sheet-metal top plate and a channeledbottom plate. The top plate is provided with an end extension, F', which is bent back over the end of the ilap or strap H of the pocket-book, to cover, protect, and confine said end, and the bottom plate :has a lengthwise depression or channel forming a corresponding raised portion, in which are formed three holes, D, to receive the pin E fixed in the base-plate A. The said4 pin thus projects through the bottom plate into the channel formed therein, and may be adjusted from one hole to another', according to the required length ofthe fastening flap or band H, or the degree to which the pocket-book may be distended.
I claim- As the improvement hereinbefore described, the combination, with the flap or strap of the pocket-book and the base-plate A, having the fixed pin E, ot' the flap-plate F, having a top portion, withv an end extension,l F', covering and protecting the end of said strap, and a bottom plate having a lengthwise depressed portion perforated atl D, as 'shown and described.
