Description

Jan. 25 1927. I 1,615Q1754 J. GCLDWORM WINDOW SAFETY LATCH Filed May 12, 1926 ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented Jan. 25, 1927.
PATENT OFFICE.
JACK GOLDVTORM, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
WINDOW SAFETY LATCH.
Application filed May 12,
This invention relates to a lock for the upper and lower sashes of a window, the general object of the invention being to provide a threaded member for engaging threaded holes in plates which are attached to the sashes so that the sashes are not only held in closed position but their end rails are firmly pressed together.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, ref erence will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a front view showing a portion of two sashes, with the lock in position. Figure 2 is a sectional view through Fig ure 1.
Figure 3 the plates.
As shown in these views, I fasten an angle plate 1 to the bottom rail 2 of the upper sash A of a window and I attach a similarplate I) to the top rail 4 of the bottom sash B of the window. These plates are each provided with a threaded hole 5 for receiving a threaded shaft 6 which has an enlarged 25 is a perspective view of one of 1926. Serial No. 108,615.
head 7, with handles 8 on said head. The plate 1 is recessed on its outer face, as shown at 9, the walls of the recess acting as guiding means for the. end of the shaft 6 to guide the same into the threaded opening in the plate.
Thus when the shaft is in engagement with the holes in both plates, the sashes are firmly held in closed position so that it is impossible to raise the lower sash or lower the upper sash. This device will also hold the rails 2 and 4: closed together.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
that I claim is A lock for a window comprising a pair of angle plates, one plate being connected with the bottom rail of the upper sash and the other plate being connected with the top rail of the lower sash, each plate having a threaded hole in its vertical part, the plate on. the upper sash having a guideway therein for guiding a member to the threaded hole and a threadedshaft for engaging the holes, said shaft having a head with handles thereon.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
JACK GOLDVJCRM.
