I description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to safety catches for cuff buttons, and one of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a simple device designed to engage the shank of a link cufi button and to prevent the loss of the button when the shoe of the button becomes detached from the button hole.

In the use of link cuff buttons especially with neglige shirts or with the-soft cuff shirts used particularly in summer time, the comparatively small shoe of the button is very liable to work its way out of the button hole and if not discovered by the wearer the button is liable to become lost.

The principal object of this invention is to prevent'the loss of link cuff buttons when the shoe of the button has become detached or withdrawn from the button hole.

These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,

Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a link cuff button of ordinary form and a safety catch connected to the shank of the button, said catch being made in accordance with this invention.

Referring to the drawing the numeral 1 designates the head, 2 the shoe, and 3 the shank of an ordinary link cuff button. The safety catch comprises the two members 4 and 5, which are preferably although not necessarily semi-circular in cross section. The member at is provided with an offset bearing lug which is pivoted upon a pin 6 between the spaced lugs 7 of the member 5.

The members f and 5 are each provided with an alining recess 8, and when the two members 4 and 5 are closed to engage the shank 3 of the link cuff button, the shank 3 is disposed within the recesses 8 in the remain connected to the lug when the member 4 is swung on its pin 6, thus preventing the loss of the ring by removal from the device when opened.

In use the safety catch is connected to the shank of the button after it has been buttoned into the cufl, and by moving the safety catch up against the inner side of the cuff adjacent to the shoe 2 it will be impossible for the button to become detached from the cuff. The catch may also be connected to the shank 3 of the button just outside the cufl between the shoe 2.

Various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the claim. j

The safety catch may be manufactured at low cost, may be made very ornamental if desired, and will be found very reliable and efficient for its purpose.
