WITNESSES: l/Vl/E/V T05 I I S v I'Gar/ Jackson. 1 W V A'rromvfy CARL A. JACKSON, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
TOOTH-BRUSH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 8, 1915.
Application filed June 27, 1914. Serial No. 847,655.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CARL A. JACKSON, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tooth-Brushes; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to tooth brushes, and has for its principal object to provide a fountain tooth brush wherein a dentifrice may be stored in the handle of the brush and fed to the head and bristles as required.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a brush of this character with a removable handle, so that when the dentifrice has become exhausted, the handle may be removed and refilled or replaced. 7
In accomplishing these objects, I have provided improved details of structure, the preferred forms ofwhich are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure I is a perspective view ofpa brush embodying my mvention. Fig.'II is a lon- 'tudinal, sectional view of the brush. Fig. II is an enlarged sectional view, indicating the delivery of dentifrice to the bristles. Fig. IV is a sectional view of the handle.
Referring more in detail to the drawings: 1 designates a tooth brush constructed according to my invention and com rising a brush head 2, provided with brist es 3 and having an interior chamber 4.
The head 2 has a plurality of orifices 5 opening therefrom amongthe bristles 3, to provide outlet for the contents of the'chamher 4, and is provided, at one end, with a threaded neck 6, having an aperture 7 therein communicating with the chamber 4, and having exterior screw threads for application to the interiorly threaded neck 8 of a handle 9.
The handle 9 preferably comprises a sub stantially rigid member 10 for forming the top and sides thereof and a soft under portion 11 clamped thereto and forming a tube,
for containing a dentifrice 12 in the form of the soft under portion of the handle is compressed, thus forcing the dentifrice through the apertured neck portion into the chamber, where it is emitted through the orifices among the bristles and is applied to the teeth. After all the dentifrice has thus been discharged from the handle, the handle may be removed and refilled or replaced by a new handle.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:
In a tooth brush having a hollow head provided with an exteriorly threaded tube and a plurality of apertures, a handle comprising a rigid, channeled body having an end duct threaded onto said tube, and a relatively soft membrane seamed to the edges of said channeled body, for the purpose set forth.
