Abstract
Montmorillonite를 주요 구성물로 하는 Bentonite의 점토광물이 매장된 광상(鑛床)에서 물질을 추출하여 미세한 입자크기로 분쇄한 후 콜로이드 상태로 정제(錠劑)처리한 Montmorillonite(또는 Bentonite)는 수많은 종류의 trace minerals(미량미네랄)이 함유된 복합물질로서, 혈액세포보다 입자크기가 훨씬 작은 천연상태의『Colloidal Trace Minerals』이기 때문에 체내에 소화 및 흡수가 용이한 관계로 식품 및 의약품의 용도로 사용되며, 인체에 발생하는 주요 질병의 원인이 미네랄결핍으로 인한 영양상태의 불균형에 있다는 사실과 함께 미량원소별로 인체의 신진대사기능 및 면역기능을 강화할 수 있는 신체적 효능이 확인되었을 뿐만아니라 질병의 예방 및 치료 그리고 신체의 건강증진 및 영양보충을 위하여 예방의학적으로 필수적인 물질이다.
Description
1. 물질(미네랄)의 광물학적 특성
Bentonite는 화산이 분화했을 때 해저에 퇴적한 화산회나 응회암 등의 암석이 변질되어 생성된 Montmorillonite를 주요 구성물로 하는 물질이다. Bentonite는 Smectite group에 속하는 점토광물질로서 Si-4면체층과 Al-8면체층이 2 : 1 형태의 결정구조를 갖는 미세한 집합체이다. Bentonite의 주요 구성물질인 Montmorillonite는 입자크기가 폭 100∼1,000㎚,, 두께는 5∼10㎚로 콜로이드입자의 크기이며 크기폭과 두께의 비율이 1:100∼1:200인 형상이방성(형상이 방향에 따라 다른 성질)이 큰 박편상 입자로서 비표면적이 크고 또 양이온교환능(CEC)을 가지므로 여러 종류의 유기물, 무기물을 흡착한다.
2. 콜로이드성 미네랄의 특성
① 토마토, 감자, 오렌지 등으로부터 얻어지는 식물계 미네랄(Plant Mineral)은 친수성(親水性) 및 콜로이드성 미네랄(Colloidal Mineral)로서, 소수성(疏水性)의 금속계 미네랄(Metallic Mineral ; 중금속으로서 독성미네랄임)과는 물리화학적 성질이 전혀 다르다. Plant Mineral의 입자크기와 분자량은 Metallic Mineral보다 대단히 작기 때문에 순도높은 Plant Mineral은 0.05마이크로 여과장치를 통과하는 입자크기로서 식품 및 의약품 등급으로 사용이 가능하다. 그러나 대부분의 Metallic Plant는 얇은 막을 통과하지 못하고 오로지 물만 통과한다. 물의 분자는 입자크기가 친수성(親水性)미네랄보다 약간 작으며 Plant Mineral의 이러한 작은 입자크기 및 수용성의 특성 때문에 소화 또는 흡수함에 있어 매우 용이하다.
② Colloidal Minerals는 선사시대의 식물성물질을 포함하고 있는 규조토를 함유한 토류물질에서 생성된다. 금속계 미네랄(Metallic Mineral)은 흡수율이 4∼6%에 불과하지만 Colloidal 형상의 미네랄 흡수율은 극적으로 증가한다. 킬레이트 형상은 약 40%까지 흡수율이 증가하는데, 콜로이드형 미네랄의 입자크기는 혈액의 세포보다 1/7000의 만큼 입자가 작기 때문에 Colloidal Minerals은 98%이상의 체내흡수율을 나타내고 있다.
3. Bentonite에 함유된 미량원소의 특징
Bentonite(또는 Montmorillonite)에 함유된 미네랄의 이온교환인자는 미량원소간의 상승작용(相乘作用)관계에 있는 특성으로 인하여 생명체의 유기적 과정 또는 생명을 유지하는 본질과 관련있는 신진대사기능 및 면역기능의 강화에 필수적인 원소이다.
4. 물질(Bentonite)의 출처 및 기원
인공위성에 의하여 전세계에서 물질이 매장된 5곳의 광산을 발견하였는데,그중에서 가장 규모가 크고 활용가치가 높은 광상(鑛床)으로서 히말라야,파키스탄,카프카스,조오지아,와사치 지역의 미네랄 광상(鑛床)이 있는데 놀랍게도 이 지역의 주변에 살고있는 사람들은 천연미네랄의 섭취로 인하여 장수하고 있는 것으로 알려지고 있으며 물질(미네랄)이 생산되고 있는 Utah주의 Wasatch산맥은 미네랄의 불가사의한 특성에 대하여 원주민의 의술이 오래전부터 전설적인 비법으로 전해오고 있다.

Bentonite를 Plant Minerals의 입자크기와 거의 동일한 Colloidal 상태로 정제처리하는 공정은 Trace Minerals(미량미네랄)이 체내에 소화 및 흡수하는 수용성의 특징을 유지하는데 중요한 과정이다.
1. 물질(Bentonite)의 정제처리(Treatment of Surface)
Bentonite의 표면성상을 개질(改質)하는 정제처리는 불순물의 제거, 반응성의 증감, 다른 원소와의 상승작용(相乘作用)등 Bentonite를 보다 유효하게 활용하는 목적으로 행하여지는데, 정제처리는 주로 원료 중에 존재하는 불순물(철화합물, 부수광물)을 제거하여 원료의 순도를 높이기 위한 공정이다.
2. 물질의 제조방법
① 매장된 광상(鑛床)에서 물질(미네랄)을 추출하여 미세한 입자크기로 분쇄한다.
② 미세한 입자크기의 상태에서 이온교환상승법에 의하여 정제(錠劑)처리한다.
③ 정제된 물질(미네랄)을 천연물의 상태로 포장한다.

- 식품용도 : 식품영양학적 효능을 강화하기 위하여 기능성식품(건강보조식품, 특수영양식품, 인삼제품 등)에 Bentonite (또는 Montmorillonite)의 성분을 사용하여 제조가공하는 식품
- 식수처리용도 : 식수처리를 위하여 Bentonite(또는 Montmorillonite)의 성분을 사용하여 제조가공하는 제품
- 의약품용도 : 체질성 질환 또는 만성퇴행성질환 등의 예방 및 개선을 목적으로 Bentonite(또는 Montmorillonite)성분을 사용하여 제조가공하거나 비타민, 아미노산 등의 영양성분에 배합하여 제조가공하는 의약품 또는 의약외품 (예 : 비타민과 미네랄을 혼합한 제제)
