Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a twist angle which is large as a whole to a titled element as well as to increase the response speed thereof and to decrease the pretilt angle by laminating plural sheets of liquid crystal cells in such a manner that the twist angles of the liquid crystal molecules of the adjacent liquid crystal cells are made continuous, thereby setting the twist angle as a whole at >=180 deg.. CONSTITUTION:Transparent electrodes 2 and oriented films 3 are respectively formed on the rear face of a 1st glass substrate 1A, the front and rear faces of a 2nd glass substrate 1B and the front face of a 3rd glass substrate 1C. The liquid crystals 5 are respectively sealed therebetween via sealants 4. The liquid crystal molecules 5a of the upper layer liquid crystal cell are provided with 90 deg. twist angle and the liquid crystal molecules of the lower layer liquid crystal cell are likewise provided with 90 deg. twist angle, by which the twist angle of the liquid crystal cells over the entire part of the upper and lower layers is set to attain 180 deg. in continuation. The twist angles are thereby dividedly shared by the respective liquid crystal cells, by which the response speed over the entire part is increased and the pretilt angle is decreased.
