Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain sufficient mechanical strength at the time of joining one oxide superconductor to the other by bringing their end surfaces into contact with each other and heat-treating them under an isotropical pressure in an oxygen atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:At the time of joining two oxide superconductors together, they are joined while being heat-treated under conditions of isotropic pressures of 3-2000kg/cm<2> and temperatures of 800-970 deg.C. Both of the oxide superconductors are perovskite type superconductors containing rare-earth elements with an Ln element, Ba and Cu contained at the atomic ratio of 1:2:3. Here the element Ln is at least one chosen out of Y, La, Sc, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, and Lu. Its composition is a perovskite structure of an oxygen fault type expressed for example by LnBa2Cu3O7-delta (delta is an oxygen fault). In this way, an intermediate phase made of the oxide superconductor is produced on the joint interface and sufficient mechanical strength is obtained without sacrificing superconductive characteristic.
