Abstract
PURPOSE:To uniform output levels by arranging straightly plural photodetecting arrays in which the width of a semiconductor photodetecting element on the end of each array in the direction of photodetecting row is reduced so as not to change its light receiving area. CONSTITUTION:A sensor for reading a facsimile device consists of coupled short sensor arrays. Plural light receiving elements PDs (PD1-PD6) are formed on the surface of each array. When the length of paper shifting direction is assumed to (a) and that of the array direction is (b) in light receiving elements other than the one arranged on the end of each array, the light receiving element 22 on the end of the array is adjusted so that the area of the element 22 consists with that of other element by extending the length a' of the paper shifting direction and reducing the length b' of the array direction. Thus even if the width of the light receiving element on the end of the array is reduced in the photodetecting row, the quantity of light reception is not reduced so much, uniforming the output levels when these arrays are connected.
