Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable both dot printing and matrix printing with a single printer by a method wherein a dot head is arranged behind a type head and clearances between both heads and a platen are made variable. CONSTITUTION:The dot head 13 is arranged behind the type head 12. In the matrix printing, after the platen is positioned previously and types are selected by the rotation and vertical shift of the type head 12, the dot head 13 is excited electrically, a wire jumps out and the type head 12 is impacted at the rear thereof for printing. Then, in the dot printing, the interval between the platen 2 and the dot head 13 is reduced. The dot printing is carried out through the notch part of the type head 12 or by removing the type head 12.
