Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the time required for changing of heating cycles and improve the working efficiency by providing a cooler and a heater selectably in a primary zone in a continuous annealing installation provided with the primary cooling zone and a quick cooling zone in succession to heating-soaking zones. CONSTITUTION:The continuous annealing installation is constituted of a primary cooling zone 6 and a quick cooling zone 7 in succession to heating-soaking zones, and is provided with a gas jet cooler 20 on the strip inlet side of the zone 6 and a convection type heater 30 on the outlet side. For example, in the case of producing mild materials, the cooler 20 is operated in the zone 6 to cool the strips down to prescribed quick cooling starting temp. In the case of producing high tensile materials, the cooler 20 is stopped and is changed over to the heater 30 to heat the strips until they attain prescribed quick cooling starting temp. just before the zone 7.
