Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an electrical contact material with superior melt sticking resistance, superior consumption resistance and stable contact resistance by adding a specified amount of Cd, Sn and In to Ag in the form of oxides.
CONSTITUTION: A metallic material consisting of 1W20% Cd, 1W10% Sn, 5W 15% In and the balance AG is melted in a high frequency electric furnace. The molten metal is cast in a metal mold to make an ingot, and after bonding an Ag layer to one side of the ingot, the ingot is rolled to predetermined size. The rolled product is then cut to fixed size and internally oxidized in the presence of oxygen gas at 700°C under 3atm. to obtain an Ag-CdO-SnO-In2O3 composite alloy. This alloy is excellent in melt sticking resistance, consumption resistance and contact resistance stability as an electrical contact material.
