Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform descaling highly efficiently at low costs by combining a cooling means for enhancing the peelability of scale, a scale breaker and pickling.
CONSTITUTION: A steel plate 3 uncoiled from a coil 1 enters a cooling means 4, and is cooled by air or water 6 ejected from nozzles 5. Thence, it passes through a breaker 7, and during this time, it is given bending strains. With this cale breaker 7, a work roll 7b is disposed between two pieces of adjacent backup rolls 7a, 7c, the clearance between the rolls 7a and 7c is made smaller than the diameter of the roll 7b, and the roll 7 contacts the rolls 7a, 7c by way of the steel plate 3. The steel plate 3 given bending in this way enters a scaling removing chamber 8 where it is thoroughly descaled by an ordinary pickling method or an acid-free descaling method, thereafter it is taken up by a tension reel 9.
