Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a heat insulating pipe with excellent heat resistance and heat insulating property, by the extrusion of a polymer mixt. consisting of an ethylene- propylene block copolymer and a resin or a rubber, and contg. a cell nucleating agent and a foaming agent, out of a metal pipe, followed by expansion.
CONSTITUTION: 0.1W10pts.wt. cell nucleating agent (e.g., fine silica powder or calcium carbonate) and a volatile solvent primarily composed of CCl3F, CClF2- CClF2, CCl2F2, etc. as a foaming agent are added to 100pts.wt. polymer mixt. consisting of 60W90wt% ethylene-propylene block copolymer contg. 1W15% ethylene and 40W10wt% plastic or rubber. The purpose heat insulating pipe is easily obtd. at a low cost, by extruding the resulting composition out of a metal pipe and forming a heat insulating layer by means of heating and expansion.
