Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a foamed polyolefin having excellent heat resistance, low density, and fine bubble structure, by extruding a mixture comprising a crystalline polyolefin resin, a specific monoolefin copolymer elastomer, a nucleus-forming substance and a volatile foaming agent, to a low pressure atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: (A) 100 parts by weight of a resin mixture comprising (a) 95-20 wt% of a crystalline polyolefin resin having a density of ≥ 0.945 g/cm2, e.g. high density polyethylene, polypropylene, etc., and (b) 5-80 wt% of a partially cross- linked elastomer composed of two or more monoolefins and having a gel fraction of ≥ 40 wt% measured by immersing in cyclohexane at 25°C for 48 hours, is mixed with (B) 0.01-5 parts of a nucleus-forming substance such as talc, and molten and plasticized in an extruder. The composition is added with (C) 5-50 parts of a volatile foaming agent having a critical temperature higher than the extrusion temperature, and extruded into a low pressure atmosphere while cooling the extrudate to obtain the objective foamed article.
