Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase positioning accuracy of a magnetic head in coping with the increase in track density, by using an optical disc as a servo plane and performing the position control of magnetic head based on the servo information of the optical disc. CONSTITUTION:An optical disc 4 consisting of an optical disc base 2 and an optical recording layer 3 as servo plane is provided at one side of a servo disc 1, and a magnetic disc 7 consisting of a magnetic disc base 5 and a magnetic recording layer 6 is provided on another side. The optical disc 4 thus constituted is located at the center of a magnetic disc assembly 8 for the magnetic head position control, and the servo information on the optical recording layer 3 readout with an optical signal pickup 11 is processed at a tracking servo circuit 15, and the control signal required for tracking operation is output to a voice coil motor drive circuit 16 to move the magnetic head fitted to the arm of a carriage 10 and the optical signal pickup 11 for desired write-in/readout of information.
