Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a styrene resin composition free from lowering of impact resistance with coating and having excellent gloss, by dispersing soft component particles having specific size and composed of a rubbery elastomer containing a polybutadiene having a high cis content.
CONSTITUTION: (A) 1W10 parts by weight of a rubbery elastomer containing ≥70wt.% of a polybutadiene having ≥90mole% of cis-1,4 bond, is mixed to dissolve with (B) 99W90 parts by weight of a monovinyl aromatic compound and (C) 0.1W5 parts by weight of a self-lubricating agent, e.g. mineral oils, butyl stearate, etc., and polymerized in the bulk or by the bulk-suspension two step polymerization to give a rubber-modified styrene resin composition wherein the soft component having a swelling index in toluene, of 9.5W12 is dispersed as particles having the average size of 0.5W1.5μ. The monovinyl aromatic compound may contain ≤30wt.% of the other vinyl monomers copolymerizable with styrene.
