Claims (15)
- 透明な基板上に形成した金属配線と、該金属配線上に形成した無機絶縁膜および有機絶縁膜と、該無機絶縁膜および有機絶縁膜の上に、層間絶縁膜を介して互いに対向するように形成した透明な第1の電極、およびストライプ状のスリット構造を有する透明な第2の電極とを有し、前記第1の電極と前記第2の電極の間に電界を印加することで液晶を駆動する横電界方式の液晶表示装置において、
薄膜トランジスタからの出力は前記無機絶縁膜を貫通するコンタクトホールを介して透明な第1の電極または第2の電極に電気的に接続されており、
前記有機絶縁膜は、前記金属配線上にあり、前記コンタクトホールを含む画素表示領域にはなく、前記金属配線上の有機絶縁膜は突起状部を形成し、
前記突起状部の傾斜部を含む前記画素表示領域に前記第1の電極または第2の電極からなる画素電極が形成されていることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置において、
前記金属配線は、ドレイン配線およびゲート配線の何れか1つまたは両方であることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1又は2に記載の液晶表示装置において、
少なくとも前記画素表示領域に形成されている前記有機絶縁膜の被覆面積が表示領域の50%以下であることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1〜3の何れか1つに記載の液晶表示装置において、

ドレイン配線と略直交する方向にストライプ状スリット構造を有する透明な共通電極が形成され、緑色画素ではスリット端部がなく、青色画素と赤色画素の隣接するドレイン線上にスリット終端部が形成されていることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1〜7の何れか1つに記載の液晶表示装置において、
前記透明な第1の電極が共通電極で、ストライプ状スリット構造を有する前記第2の電極が画素電極であることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1〜10の何れか1つに記載の液晶表示装置において、
前記有機絶縁膜の突起状部に対応する、対向基板の位置には、隣接画素間に遮光部を形成しないことを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置において、

表示領域の外周全体に前記有機絶縁膜が土手状に形成され、表示領域全体を囲む構造であることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 請求項14に記載の液晶表示装置において、
外周全体に土手状に形成された前記有機絶縁膜の幅が、表示領域内部の前記有機絶縁膜の突起状部の幅よりも広いことを特徴とする液晶表示装置。
