Description
本発明の目的は、タッチパネルの機能を表示パネルに簡単な構造で一体化させ、それにより画素の開口率を高く維持できる表示装置、を提供することにある。
図1に、本発明の第1実施例による表示装置の模式的な平面図を示す。図1に示されているように、この表示装置は、表示パネル300、ゲート駆動部130、第1読み出し部150、第2読み出し部170、及び駆動部400を含む。
第2読み出し部170はアレイ基板100の第3周辺領域PA3に形成されている。第2読み出し部170は各ゲート線GLに接続され、各ゲート線GLに生じた電気的変化を第2感知信号として出力する。第2読み出し部170は特にその出力動作を、駆動部400から入力される第2制御パルスに応じて行う。
駆動部400は更に、表示区間にゲート制御信号をゲート駆動部130に出力する。ゲート駆動部130はゲート制御信号の示すタイミングで各ゲート配線GLに順番にゲート信号を出力する。
駆動部400はその上、各フレームの除去区間において、第1読み出し部150には第1制御パルスを出力し、第2読み出し部170には第2制御パルスを出力する。各読み出し部150、170は各制御パルスに応じ、ソース配線DL又はゲート配線GLに生じる電気的変化を感知信号として出力する。駆動部400はそれらの感知信号を解析し、ユーザの指又はペン先等の物体が接触した表示領域DA上の位置の座標を検出する。
対向基板200に外部の物体が接触していないとき、第1ノードN1の電位が第1電圧である。その場合、パルス発生器PGから感知素子CSに対して印加されたパルス電圧に応じて第1電流が第2ノードN2と電流検出器Aとの間を流れる。電流検出器Aはそのとき、第1電流に応じたレベルの感知信号を出力する。
ソース駆動部450は、メモリ420から映像データを読み出し、基準ガンマ電圧VREFに基づいてデジタルの映像データをアナログのデータ信号に変換する。ソース駆動部450は更に、各フレームの表示区間に、各ソース配線DL1、…、DLmへデータ信号を出力する。
図8に示されているように、表示パネル500は、対向基板200が背面側(図8では下側)に配置され、アレイ基板100が前面側(図8では上側)に配置されている。表示パネル500では、対向基板200の背面から光が入射し、アレイ基板100の前面から出射される。更に、アレイ基板100の前面には外部の物体(ユーザの指やペン先)が接触可能である。
アレイ基板100に外部の物体が接触していないとき、第1ノードN1の電位が第1電圧である。その場合、電流検出器Aには、パルス発生器PGから出力されたパルス電圧に応じ、感知素子CSを流れる電流と寄生キャパシタCPを流れる電流との間の差に等しい電流が流れる。電流検出器Aはその電流を検出し、検出された電流量に応じたレベルの感知信号を出力する。
表示パネル600は、第1実施例による表示パネル300とは異なり、周辺領域PAに複数の短絡点SP1、SP2、SP3、SP4が形成されている。更に、対向基板200では、共通電極がパターニングにより、複数の電極CE1、CE2、CE3、CE4に分割されている。各電極CE1、CE2、CE3、CE4は短絡点SP1、SP2、SP3、SP4に一つずつ接続されている。
対向基板200に外部の物体が接触していないとき、第1ノードN1の電位が第1電圧である。その場合、電流検出器Aには、パルス発生器PGから出力されたパルス電圧に応じ、感知素子CSを流れる電流と寄生キャパシタCPを流れる電流との間の差に等しい電流が流れる。電流検出器Aはその電流量を検出し、検出された電流量に応じたレベルの感知信号を出力する。

前記ソース配線及び前記ゲート配線の少なくとも一方から、前記ソース配線、前記ゲート配線、及び前記共通電極のいずれかに生じる電気的変化を取得し、感知信号を出力する読み出し部、並びに、
各フレーム区間の除去区間において前記読み出し部に制御パルスを出力して前記読み出し部を駆動するパルス発生部、
を有し、
前記読み出し部が、
前記ソース配線に接続され、前記ソース配線に生じる電気的変化を第1感知信号に変換する第1読み出し部、及び、
前記ゲート配線に接続され、前記ゲート配線に生じる電気的変化を第2感知信号に変換する第2読み出し部、
を含み、
前記パルス発生部は、前記第1読み出し部に第1制御パルスを出力して前記第1読み出し部の駆動を制御し、前記第2読み出し部に第2制御パルスを出力して前記第2読み出し部の駆動を制御し、
前記第1制御パルスの電圧レベルが前記データ信号の電圧レベルより高く、
前記第2制御パルスの電圧レベルがゲートオフ電圧のレベルより低い、表示装置。 - 前記第1読み出し部が、
前記ソース配線に接続され、前記第1制御パルスに応じてターンオンする第1スイッチング部と、
前記第1スイッチング部に接続され、前記ソース配線を流れる電流を第1感知信号に変換する第1電流検出部と、
を含む、請求項1に記載の表示装置。 - 前記第2読み出し部が、
前記ゲート配線に接続され、前記第2制御パルスに応じてターンオンする第2スイッチング部と、
前記第2スイッチング部に接続され、前記ゲート配線を流れる電流を第2感知信号に変換する第2電流検出部と、
を含む、請求項1に記載の表示装置。 - 前記表示パネルでは、前記アレイ基板に光が入射し、前記対向基板に外部の物体が接触可能である、請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 前記除去区間に前記共通電極をフローティング状態に維持する電圧発生部、を更に有する、請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 前記表示パネルでは、前記対向基板に光が入射し、前記アレイ基板に外部の物体が接触可能である、請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 前記除去区間に所定の直流電圧を前記共通電極に対して印加する電圧発生部、を更に有する、請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- ソース配線とゲート配線との形成されたアレイ基板、及び、共通電極が形成された対向基板、を含む表示装置の駆動方法であり、
各フレームの表示区間において前記ソース配線と前記ゲート配線とへ駆動信号を出力して前記表示装置に画像を表示する段階、
各フレームの除去区間において、前記ソース配線及び前記ゲート配線の少なくとも一方から、前記ソース配線、前記ゲート配線、及び前記共通電極のいずれかに生じた電気的変化を取得する段階、及び、
前記取得した電気的変化をもとに感知信号を出力する段階、
を有し、
前記感知信号を出力する段階が、
前記ソース配線に生じた電気的変化を、データ信号の電圧レベルより高い第1制御パルスに応じて第1感知信号として出力する段階、及び、
前記ゲート配線に生じた電気的変化を、ゲートオフ電圧レベルより低い第2制御パルスに応じて第2感知信号として出力する段階、
を含む、表示装置の駆動方法。 - 前記電気的変化を取得する段階が、前記除去区間に前記共通電極をフローティング状態に維持する段階を更に含む、請求項8に記載の表示装置の駆動方法。
- 前記電気的変化を取得する段階が、前記除去区間に直流電圧を前記共通電極に対して印加する段階を更に含む、請求項8に記載の表示装置の駆動方法。
- 前記感知信号を出力する段階が、前記共通電極に生じた電気的変化を感知信号として出力する段階を含む、請求項8に記載の表示装置の駆動方法。
- 前記電気的変化を取得する段階が、前記除去区間に直流電圧を前記ソース配線に出力する段階を更に含む、請求項11に記載の表示装置の駆動方法。
