Description
前記画像表示媒体の温度を測定する温度測定手段と、前記帯電粒子群の帯電量が低下し始める温度を第1の温度とし、前記第1の温度より高く且つ前記帯電粒子群の帯電量が更に低下して回復不能な状態となる温度を第2の温度として、下記(1)から(3)に規定するように、(1)画像表示媒体の温度が前記第1の温度未満である場合には、前記画像表示媒体の第1の温度に応じて初期設定された電圧印加条件に基づいて駆動電圧を前記基板間に印加する、(2)画像表示媒体の温度が前記第1の温度以上で且つ前記第2の温度未満である場合には、前記画像表示媒体の温度に応じて、前記第1の温度未満である場合に印加する駆動電圧に比べて、高い電圧値、長い電圧印加時間、又は多い電圧印加回数となるように設定された電圧印加条件に基づいて駆動電圧を前記基板間に印加する、(3)画像表示媒体の温度が前記第2の温度以上である場合には、前記画像表示媒体への駆動電圧印加を禁止する、前記画像表示媒体に予め定められた表示濃度の画像を表示するために前記画像表示媒体の温度に応じて予め定められた電圧印加条件に基づいて、前記温度測定手段によって測定された前記画像表示媒体の温度に応じた電圧印加条件に基づいた駆動電圧を前記基板間に印加する電圧印加手段と、を備えている。
但しいずれも高い駆動電圧が必要となったり,表示するためのトータル時間が長くなってしまうため,図5に記載されているようにステップ116の初期化駆動とステップ118の表示駆動の両方で対応する方が好ましい,)
画像表示媒体12の温度がT1以上で、且つ非駆動状態では帯電しているが駆動されるとさらに帯電量が低下する臨界温度としての温度T2未満であるときには、初期設定値よりも帯電粒子群25の帯電量の低下率に応じた値大きい電圧値及び電圧印加時間となるように初期化駆動電圧を制御、及び帯電量の低下率に応じた値温度T1未満のときより大きい電圧値、電圧印加時間、及び繰返し印加回数となるように表示駆動電圧を制御する。

Claims (4)
- 少なくとも一方が透光性を有すると共に間隙をもって対向配置された一対の基板間に、帯電粒子群が封入されて成り、前記一対の基板間に印加された電圧により形成される電界に応じて前記帯電粒子群が前記一対の基板間を移動することにより表示濃度が変化する画像表示媒体と、
前記画像表示媒体の温度を測定する温度測定手段と、
前記帯電粒子群の帯電量が低下し始める温度を第1の温度とし、前記第1の温度より高く且つ前記帯電粒子群の帯電量が更に低下して回復不能な状態となる温度を第2の温度として、下記(1)から(3)に規定するように、
(1)画像表示媒体の温度が前記第1の温度未満である場合には、前記画像表示媒体の第1の温度に応じて初期設定された電圧印加条件に基づいて駆動電圧を前記基板間に印加する、
(2)画像表示媒体の温度が前記第1の温度以上で且つ前記第2の温度未満である場合には、前記画像表示媒体の温度に応じて、前記第1の温度未満である場合に印加する駆動電圧に比べて、高い電圧値、長い電圧印加時間、又は多い電圧印加回数となるように設定された電圧印加条件に基づいて駆動電圧を前記基板間に印加する、
(3)画像表示媒体の温度が前記第2の温度以上である場合には、前記画像表示媒体への駆動電圧印加を禁止する、
前記画像表示媒体に予め定められた表示濃度の画像を表示するために前記画像表示媒体の温度に応じて予め定められた電圧印加条件に基づいて、前記温度測定手段によって測定された前記画像表示媒体の温度に応じた電圧印加条件に基づいた駆動電圧を前記基板間に印加する電圧印加手段と、
を備えた画像表示装置。 - 前記電圧印加条件は、前記画像表示媒体へ画像表示を行うために前記一対の基板間に印加する表示駆動電圧の電圧値、電圧印加時間、及び電圧印加回数の少なくとも一種類である請求項1に記載の画像表示装置。
- 前記電圧印加条件は、前記画像表示媒体へ画像表示を行うために前記一対の基板間に印加する表示駆動電圧を印加する前に、前記一対の基板間に印加する初期化駆動電圧の電圧値及び電圧印加時間の何れか一方または双方である請求項1または請求項2に記載の画像表示装置。
- 前記温度測定手段は、前記一対の基板の何れか一方の温度を測定する請求項1乃至請求項3の何れか1項に記載の画像表示装置。
