Description
ガソリンとアルコールとを混合した燃料を前記改質燃料として前記燃料改質触媒に供給する改質燃料供給手段と、
前記燃料改質触媒の温度を取得する温度取得手段と、
前記改質燃料に含まれるガソリンとアルコールとの混合比率を検出する混合比率検出手段と、
前記混合比率検出手段により検出した混合比率に応じて、前記燃料改質触媒が作動するのに必要な下限温度を可変に設定する下限温度算出手段と、
前記温度取得手段により取得した温度が前記下限温度よりも低いときに、前記改質燃料供給手段による改質燃料の供給を停止する改質燃料停止手段と、を備え、
前記下限温度算出手段は、前記改質燃料に含まれるガソリンの混合比率が高くなるにつれて、前記下限温度を高い温度に設定する構成としたことを特徴とする。
[実施の形態1の構成]
以下、図1乃至図4を参照しつつ、本発明の実施の形態1について説明する。まず、図1は、実施の形態1のシステム構成を説明するための全体構成図を示している。本実施形態のシステムは、例えば多気筒型の内燃機関10を備えている。この内燃機関10は、アルコールとガソリンとを混合した燃料によって運転されるものであり、本実施の形態では、その一例として、エタノールとガソリンとの混合燃料を用いるものとする。
また、ECU50は、以下に述べるように、排気ガスと改質燃料との改質反応によって生成された可燃ガス(改質ガス)を吸気管12内に還流させる改質制御を行う。改質制御では、分岐管32内を流れる排気ガスに対して、改質燃料噴射弁34から改質燃料を噴射し、これらの混合ガスを改質室26に流入させる。このとき、ECU50は、例えば内燃機関10の運転状態、燃料の混合比率、燃料改質触媒28の温度等に応じて、改質燃料の適切な噴射量(供給量)を決定する。

上記の説明から判るように、燃料改質触媒28の温度が低過ぎる場合には、改質反応が円滑に進行しない。この状態で、改質燃料噴射弁34から改質燃料を噴射すると、改質燃料が未反応のまま触媒28に残留してエミッションが悪化したり、この燃料が後で不要な燃焼を起こして触媒28が異常な高温となる虞れがある。
また、本実施の形態のシステムでは、ECU50により燃料改質触媒28の温度を推定する構成としている。この場合、ECU50は、まず内燃機関10の運転状態(例えば機関回転数、吸入空気量、負荷状態等)を検出する。また、内燃機関10の始動から運転が継続されている時間を計測する。そして、これらの運転状態と運転継続時間とを用いて、公知の方法により燃料改質触媒28の推定温度Tを算出する。
また、改質燃料噴射弁34から噴射された改質燃料は、分岐管32を通って燃料改質触媒28の位置に達すると、排気通路30を流れる排気ガスの熱等によって触媒28の表面や近傍で蒸発し、気化する。燃料の蒸発時には周囲から気化熱が奪われるので、その分だけ燃料改質触媒28の温度が低下する。
図4は、本実施の形態のシステム動作を実現するために、ECU50が実行するルーチンのフローチャートである。なお、図4に示すルーチンは、内燃機関の始動時に開始され、一定の時間毎に繰返し実行されるものである。

Claims (4)
- 加熱手段を備え、前記加熱手段の熱によって改質燃料から可燃ガスを生成する燃料改質触媒と、
ガソリンとアルコールとを混合した燃料を前記改質燃料として前記燃料改質触媒に供給する改質燃料供給手段と、
前記燃料改質触媒の温度を取得する温度取得手段と、
前記改質燃料に含まれるガソリンとアルコールとの混合比率を検出する混合比率検出手段と、
前記混合比率検出手段により検出した混合比率に応じて、前記燃料改質触媒が作動するのに必要な下限温度を可変に設定する下限温度算出手段と、
前記温度取得手段により取得した温度が前記下限温度よりも低いときに、前記改質燃料供給手段による改質燃料の供給を停止する改質燃料停止手段と、を備え、
前記下限温度算出手段は、前記改質燃料に含まれるガソリンの混合比率が高くなるにつれて、前記下限温度を高い温度に設定する構成としたことを特徴とする内燃機関。 - 前記温度取得手段は、内燃機関の運転状態に応じて前記燃料改質触媒の温度を推定する構成とし、当該温度の推定結果を前記改質燃料の供給量に応じて補正する推定温度補正手段を備えてなる請求項1に記載の内燃機関。
- 前記推定温度補正手段は、前記改質燃料の供給量が増えるにつれて、前記温度の推定結果を低い温度に補正する構成としてなる請求項2に記載の内燃機関。
- 前記加熱手段は、排気ガスの熱によって前記燃料改質触媒を加熱する熱交換器である請求項1乃至3のうち何れか1項に記載の内燃機関。
