Abstract
Description
本実施の形態では、本発明の一態様の表示装置の構成例、及び駆動方法例について説明する。
図1(A)に、表示装置10のブロック図を示す。表示装置10は、表示部11、駆動回路部12、駆動回路部13を有する。
図1(B)に、画素21の回路図の一例を示す。画素21は、トランジスタM1、トランジスタM2、トランジスタM3、トランジスタM4、容量素子C1、容量素子C2、及び発光素子ELを有する。
図1(B)に示す画素21の駆動方法の一例について、図2に示すタイミングチャートを用いて説明する。図2には、配線GL1、配線GL2、配線SL及び配線VLに入力される信号と、ノードN1の電位の推移の例とを、合わせて示している。
時刻T1以前において、配線GL1、配線GL2には、トランジスタを非導通状態にする電位(ここではローレベル電位)が与えられる。配線SL及び配線VLには、それぞれ一つ前の行の画素に書き込むためのデータが与えられている。また、ノードN1の電位は、一つ前のフレームにおいて書き込まれた電位VXが与えられた状態である。
時刻T1において、配線GL1及び配線GL2にトランジスタを導通状態とする電位(ここではハイレベル電位)が与えられ、配線SLにはデータ電位Dが与えられ、配線VLにはリセット電位VRが与えられる。
続いて、時刻T2において、配線GL1にローレベル電位が与えられ、配線GL2にはハイレベル電位が与えられ、配線VLには、データ電位DWが与えられる。
時刻T3において、配線GL2にはローレベル電位が与えられる。これにより、画素21へのデータの書き込み動作が完了する。時刻T3以降は、次の行の書き込み動作に移行する。
図3に、図1(B)で示した画素21の変形例である画素21aの回路図を示す。
以下では、図1(B)で例示した画素とは一部の構成が異なる画素の構成例について説明する。
図4(B)に、図4(A)で示した画素21bの変形例である画素21cの回路図を示す。
以下では、上記構成例1とは一部の構成が異なる表示装置の構成例について説明する。なお以下では、上記と重複する部分については説明を省略する場合がある。
図6に、画素20の回路図の一例を示す。画素20は、副画素21R、副画素21G、及び副画素21Bを有する。
図7に、画素20aの回路図の一例を示す。画素20aは、副画素21aR、副画素21aG、及び副画素21aBを有する。
以下では、図6に示す画素20の駆動方法の一例について、図8(A)に示すタイミングチャートを用いて説明する。図8(A)には、配線GL1、配線GL2、配線SLR、配線SLG、配線SLB、及び配線VLに入力される信号を示している。
時刻T11以前において、配線GL1、配線GL2には、トランジスタを非導通状態にする電位(ここではローレベル電位)が与えられる。配線SLR、配線SLG、配線SLB、及び配線VLには、それぞれ一つ前の行の画素に書き込むためのデータが与えられている。
時刻T11において、配線GL1及び配線GL2にトランジスタを導通状態とする電位(ここではハイレベル電位)が与えられる。また、配線SLR、配線SLG、配線SLBには、それぞれデータ電位DR、データ電位DG、データ電位DBが与えられる。また、配線VLには、リセット電位VRが与えられる。
続いて、時刻T12において、配線GL1にローレベル電位が与えられ、配線GL2にはハイレベル電位が与えられ、配線VLにはデータ電位DWが与えられる。
時刻T13において、配線GL2には、ローレベル電位が与えられる。これにより、画素20へのデータの書き込み動作が完了する。時刻T13以降は、次の行の書き込み動作に移行する。
以下では、上記駆動方法例2−1とは異なる駆動方法の一例について、図8(B)に示すタイミングチャートを用いて説明する。ここでは特に、配線SLR、配線SLG、配線SLBにデータ電位を供給する駆動回路部12が、デマルチプレクサ回路を有する場合の例について説明する。
時刻T21以前において、配線GL1、配線GL2には、トランジスタを非導通状態にする電位(ここではローレベル電位)が与えられる。配線SLR、配線SLG、配線SLB、及び配線VLには、それぞれ一つ前の行の画素に書き込むためのデータが与えられている。
時刻T21において、配線GL1及び配線GL2にトランジスタを導通状態とする電位(ここではハイレベル電位)が与えられる。また、配線SLRには、データ電位DRが与えられる。配線SLG及び配線SLBには、それぞれ一つ前の行の画素に書き込むためのデータが与えられている。また配線VLには、リセット電位VRが与えられる。
時刻T22において、配線GL1及び配線GL2には引き続きトランジスタを導通状態とする電位が与えられた状態で、配線SLGにデータ電位DGが与えられ、副画素21Gに書き込まれる。このとき、配線SLRにはデータ電位DRが、配線SLBには一つ前の行の画素に書き込むためのデータがそれぞれ与えられている。なお、このときも、発光素子ELR、発光素子ELG、発光素子ELBの発光は生じない。
時刻T23において、配線GL1及び配線GL2には引き続きトランジスタを導通状態とする電位が与えられた状態で、配線SLBにデータ電位DBが与えられ、副画素21B書き込まれる。このとき、配線SLRにはデータ電位DRが、配線SLGにはデータ電位DGが、それぞれ与えられている。なお、このときも、発光素子ELR、発光素子ELG、発光素子ELBの発光は生じない。
続いて、時刻T24において、配線GL1にローレベル電位が与えられ、配線GL2にはハイレベル電位が与えられ、配線VLにはデータ電位DWが与えられる。これにより、データ電位DWによって補正された輝度で、各副画素の発光素子が発光することができる。
図5で例示した表示装置10aでは、1つの画素20につき1本の配線VLを設ける構成としたが、1本の配線VLが、複数の画素20と接続する構成としてもよい。
本発明の一態様の表示装置は、画像を表示する機能に加えて、撮像する機能を有していてもよい。より具体的には、表示装置が有する画素に、発光素子と、受光素子とを有する構成とすることができる。マトリクス状に配置された受光素子により、被対象物を撮像することができる。また、発光素子は、受光素子で撮像する際の光源として用いることもでき、発光素子から発せられた光が対象物に反射した反射光を受光素子で撮像することができる。
図11(A)に、撮像画素22に適用可能な回路の一例を示している。撮像画素22は、トランジスタM5、トランジスタM6、トランジスタM7、トランジスタM8、容量素子C3、及び受光素子PDを有する。
以下では、撮像画素22の駆動方法の一例について、図11(B)に示すタイミングチャートを用いて説明する。図11(B)には、配線TX、配線SE、配線RS、及び配線WXに入力される信号を示している。
時刻T31以前において、配線TX、配線SE、及び配線RSにはローレベル電位が与えられる。また、配線WXはデータが出力されていない状態であり、ここではローレベル電位として示している。なお、配線WXに所定の電位が与えられていてもよい。
時刻T31において、配線TXと配線RSに、トランジスタを導通状態とする電位(ここではハイレベル電位)が与えられる。また配線SEには、トランジスタを非導通状態とする電位(ここではローレベル電位)が与えられる。
時刻T32において、配線TX及び配線RSに、ローレベル電位が与えられる。これにより、トランジスタM5とトランジスタM6とが互いに非導通状態となる。
時刻T33において、配線TXにハイレベル電位が与えられる。これにより、トランジスタM5が導通状態となり、受光素子PDに蓄積された電荷が、トランジスタM5を介して容量素子C3の第1の電極に転送される。これにより、容量素子C3の第1の電極が接続されるノードの電位は、受光素子PDに蓄積された電荷量に応じて上昇する。その結果、トランジスタM7のゲートには、受光素子PDの露光量に応じた電位が与えられた状態となる。
時刻T34において、配線TXにローレベル電位が与えられる。これにより、トランジスタM5が非導通状態となり、トランジスタM7のゲートが接続されるノードがフローティング状態となる。受光素子PDの露光は常に生じているため、期間T33−T34における転送動作が完了した後に、トランジスタM5を非導通状態とすることで、トランジスタM7のゲートが接続されるノードの電位が変化することを防ぐことができる。
時刻T35において、配線SEにハイレベル電位が与えられる。これにより、トランジスタM8が導通状態となる。期間T35−T36は、読み出し期間ともいうことができる。
時刻T36において、配線SEにローレベル電位が与えられる。これにより、トランジスタM8が非導通状態となる。これにより、撮像画素22のデータの読み出しが完了する。時刻T36以降は、次の行以降のデータの読み出し動作が順次行われる。
本実施の形態では、撮像機能を有する表示装置について説明する。以下で例示する表示装置は、発光素子と、受光素子を備える。表示装置は、画像を表示する機能と、被検出体からの反射光を用いて位置検出を行う機能と、被検出体からの反射光を用いて指紋等の撮像を行う機能と、を有する。以下で例示する表示装置は、タッチパネルとしての機能と、指紋センサとしての機能と、を有するともいうことができる。
〔構成例1−1〕
図14(A)に、表示パネル50の模式図を示す。表示パネル50は、基板51、基板52、受光素子53、発光素子57R、発光素子57G、発光素子57B、機能層55等を有する。
以下では、可視光を呈する発光素子と、赤外光を呈する発光素子と、受光素子と、を備える構成の例について説明する。
〔構成例2−1〕
図16(A)に、表示パネル100Aの断面概略図を示す。
図16(B)に表示パネル100Bの断面図を示す。なお、以降の表示パネルの説明において、先に説明した表示パネルと同様の構成については、説明を省略することがある。
図16(C)に、表示パネル100Cの断面概略図を示す。表示パネル100Cは、基板151、基板152、及び隔壁216を有さず、基板153、基板154、接着層155、絶縁層212、及び隔壁217を有する点で、表示パネル100Aと異なる。
上記では、発光素子と受光素子が、2つの共通層を有する例を示したが、これに限られない。以下では、共通層の構成が異なる例について説明する。
以下では、表示パネルのより具体的な構成例について説明する。
図19に、表示パネル200Aの斜視図を示す。
図21(A)に、表示パネル200Bの断面図を示す。表示パネル200Bは、レンズ149及び保護層195を有する点で、主に表示パネル200Aと相違している。
図22(A)に、表示パネル200Cの断面図を示す。表示パネル200Cは、トランジスタの構造が異なる点、遮光層BM及びレンズ149を有さない点で、主に表示パネル200Bと相違している。
図23に、表示パネル200Dの断面図を示す。表示パネル200Dは、基板の構成が異なる点で、表示パネル200Cと主に相違している。
以下では、半導体層に適用可能な金属酸化物について説明する。
本実施の形態では、本発明の一態様の複合デバイスの一態様である電子機器について、図24〜図26を用いて説明する。
表示装置は、ガラス基板上にトランジスタと、トランジスタ上に発光素子及び受光素子を形成することで作製した。また発光素子及び受光素子を保護する保護層として、発光素子及び受光素子上に、接着層を介して有機樹脂を含むフィルムを貼り付けた。
作製した表示装置の表示面に手のひらを載せた状態で、撮像を行った。撮像は、緑の発光素子を光源として用い、これを発光させた状態で行った。その後、得られた画像データに対して、ノイズ除去のために平滑化処理と、見やすさ向上のためにコントラスト調整とを、それぞれ行った。
Claims (10)
- 画素と、第1の配線と、第2の配線と、を有し、
前記画素は、第1乃至第4のトランジスタと、第1の容量素子と、発光素子と、を有し、
前記第1のトランジスタは、ソース及びドレインの一方が前記第1の配線と電気的に接続され、他方が前記第2のトランジスタのゲート及び前記第1の容量素子の一方の電極と電気的に接続され、
前記発光素子は、一方の電極が前記第2のトランジスタのソース及びドレインの一方と電気的に接続され、
前記第1の配線は、第1のデータ電位が与えられる機能を有し、
前記第2の配線は、第2のデータ電位と、リセット電位とが、異なる期間に与えられる機能を有し、
前記第3のトランジスタは、自身がオン状態のときに、前記第2の配線に与えられる前記第2のデータ電位を、前記第1の容量素子の他方の電極に供給する機能を有し、
前記第4のトランジスタは、自身がオン状態のときに、前記第2の配線に与えられる前記リセット電位を、前記発光素子の一方の電極に供給する機能を有する、
表示装置。 - 画素と、第1の配線と、第2の配線と、を有し、
前記画素は、第1乃至第4のトランジスタと、第1の容量素子と、発光素子と、を有し、
前記第1のトランジスタは、ソース及びドレインの一方が前記第1の配線と電気的に接続され、他方が前記第2のトランジスタのゲート及び前記第1の容量素子の一方の電極と電気的に接続され、
前記発光素子は、一方の電極が前記第2のトランジスタのソース及びドレインの一方と電気的に接続され、
前記第1の配線は、第1のデータ電位が与えられる機能を有し、
前記第2の配線は、第2のデータ電位と、リセット電位とが、異なる期間に与えられる機能を有し、
前記第3のトランジスタは、ソース及びドレインの一方が前記第2の配線と電気的に接続され、他方が前記第1の容量素子の他方の電極と電気的に接続され、
前記第4のトランジスタは、ソース及びドレインの一方が前記第2の配線と電気的に接続され、他方が前記発光素子の一方の電極と電気的に接続される、
表示装置。 - 画素と、第1の配線と、第2の配線と、を有し、
前記画素は、第1乃至第4のトランジスタと、第1の容量素子と、発光素子と、を有し、
前記第1のトランジスタは、ソース及びドレインの一方が前記第1の配線と電気的に接続され、他方が前記第2のトランジスタのゲート及び前記第1の容量素子の一方の電極と電気的に接続され、
前記発光素子は、一方の電極が前記第2のトランジスタのソース及びドレインの一方と電気的に接続され、
前記第1の配線は、第1のデータ電位が与えられる機能を有し、
前記第2の配線は、第2のデータ電位と、リセット電位とが、異なる期間に与えられる機能を有し、
前記第3のトランジスタは、ソース及びドレインの一方が前記第2の配線と電気的に接続され、他方が前記第1の容量素子の他方の電極及び前記第4のトランジスタのソース及びドレインの一方と電気的に接続され、
前記第4のトランジスタは、ソース及びドレインの他方が、前記発光素子の一方の電極と電気的に接続される、
表示装置。 - 請求項1乃至請求項3のいずれか一において、
第3の配線及び第4の配線を有し、
前記第3の配線は、前記第1のトランジスタのゲート、及び前記第4のトランジスタのゲートと電気的に接続され、
前記第4の配線は、前記第3のトランジスタのゲートと電気的に接続される、
表示装置。 - 請求項1乃至請求項4のいずれか一において、
第2の容量素子を有し、
前記第2の容量素子は、一方の電極が前記第2のトランジスタのゲートと電気的に接続され、他方が前記発光素子の一方の電極と電気的に接続される、
表示装置。 - 請求項1乃至請求項5のいずれか一において、
前記画素を複数有し、
複数の前記画素は、行方向及び列方向にマトリクス状に配置され、
前記第2の配線は、前記行方向に配列する2以上の前記画素の各々における、前記第3のトランジスタ及び前記第4のトランジスタと電気的に接続される、
表示装置。 - 請求項1乃至請求項5のいずれか一において、
前記画素を複数有し、
複数の前記画素は、行方向及び列方向にマトリクス状に配置され、
前記第2の配線は、前記行方向に配列する複数の前記画素のうち、隣接する3つの前記画素の各々における、前記第3のトランジスタ及び前記第4のトランジスタと電気的に接続され、
当該隣接する3つの前記画素は、それぞれ異なる色の光を呈する、
表示装置。 - 請求項1乃至請求項7のいずれか一において、
受光素子を有し、
前記受光素子は、受光波長域が前記発光素子の発光波長を包含し、
前記発光素子と、前記受光素子とは、同一面上に設けられる、
表示装置。 - 請求項8において、
前記発光素子は、第1の電極と、発光層と、共通電極と、が積層され、
前記受光素子は、第2の電極と、活性層と、前記共通電極と、が積層され、
前記発光層と、前記活性層とは、異なる有機化合物を含み、
前記第1の電極と、前記第2の電極とは、同一面上に離間して設けられ、
前記共通電極は、前記発光層及び前記活性層を覆って設けられる、
表示装置。 - 請求項8において、
前記発光素子は、第1の電極と、共通層と、発光層と、共通電極と、が積層され、
前記受光素子は、第2の電極と、前記共通層と、活性層と、前記共通層と、が積層され、
前記発光層と、前記活性層とは、異なる有機化合物を含み、
前記第1の電極と、前記第2の電極とは、同一面上に離間して設けられ、
前記共通電極は、前記発光層及び前記活性層を覆って設けられ、
前記共通層は、前記第1の電極及び前記第2の電極を覆って設けられる、
表示装置。
