Abstract
【解決手段】RGB画素の各々は、映像信号をサンプリングするサンプリングトランジスタTr1とサンプリングされた映像信号を保持する保持容量Csと、保持された映像信号に応じた駆動電流を発光期間中出力するドライブトランジスタTrdと、駆動電流に応じ割り当てられたRGB色で発光する発光素子ELとを含む。RGB各画素のドライブトランジスタTrdを発光期間中電源ラインVccに接続する為に三個のRGB画素に対して共通に配された一個のスイッチングトランジスタTr4を備えている。

Ids=(1/2)μ(W/L)Cox(Vgs−Vth)2・・・式1
このトランジスタ特性式1において、Vgsはソースを基準としてゲートに印加されるゲート電圧を表わしており、Vthはトランジスタの閾電圧である。又μはトランジスタのチャネルを構成する半導体薄膜の移動度を表わしている。その他Wはチャネル幅を表わし、Lはチャネル長を表わし、Coxはゲート容量を表わしている。

上記式2において、k=(1/2)(W/L)Coxである。この特性式2からVthの項がキャンセルされており、発光素子ELに供給される出力電流IdsはドライブトランジスタTrdの閾電圧Vthに依存しない事が分かる。基本的にドレイン電流Idsは映像信号の信号電位Vsigによって決まる。換言すると、発光素子ELは映像信号の信号電位Vsigに応じた輝度で発光する事になる。その際Vsigは負帰還量ΔVで補正されている。この補正量ΔVは丁度特性式2の係数部に位置する移動度μの効果を打ち消すように働く。したがって、ドレイン電流Idsは実質的に映像信号の信号電位Vsigのみに依存する事になる。
Claims (6)
- 三原色が割り当てられた三個の画素と電源ラインとを備えた画素回路において、
各画素は、映像信号をサンプリングするサンプリングトランジスタと、サンプリングされた映像信号を保持する保持容量と、保持された映像信号に応じた駆動電流を所定の発光期間中出力するドライブトランジスタと、該駆動電流に応じ該割り当てられた色で発光する発光素子とを含み、
各画素のドライブトランジスタを発光期間中該電源ラインに接続する為に三個の画素に対して共通に配された一個のスイッチングトランジスタを備えたことを特徴とする画素回路。 - 各画素は、該保持容量を補助するために異なる容量値を有する補助容量を備えており、
前記スイッチングトランジスタは最も容量値の小さな補助容量を備えた画素に配することを特徴とする請求項1記載の画素回路。 - 前記スイッチングトランジスタは、多層配線で三個の画素の三個のドライブトランジスタに接続していることを特徴とする請求項1記載の画素回路。
- 三原色が割り当てられた三個の画素を単位としてマトリクス状に配した画素と、各画素に給電する電源ラインとを備えたパネル状の表示装置であって、
三原色が割り当てられた三個の画素は、各々が映像信号をサンプリングするサンプリングトランジスタと、サンプリングされた映像信号を保持する保持容量と、保持された映像信号に応じた駆動電流を所定の発光期間中出力するドライブトランジスタと、該駆動電流に応じ該割り当てられた色で発光する発光素子とを含み、
三原色が割り当てられた三個の画素の各ドライブトランジスタを発光期間中該電源ラインに接続する為に三個の画素に対して共通に配された一個のスイッチングトランジスタを備えたことを特徴とする表示装置。 - 三原色が割り当てられた三個の画素の各々は、該保持容量を補助するために異なる容量値を有する補助容量を備えており、
前記スイッチングトランジスタは三個の画素のうち最も容量値の小さな補助容量を備えた画素に配することを特徴とする請求項4記載の表示装置。 - 前記スイッチングトランジスタは、多層配線で三個の画素の三個のドライブトランジスタに接続していることを特徴とする請求項4記載の表示装置。
