Abstract
Description
電界が印加されるとその光学的状態を変化させることのできる反射型電気光学材料層と、
この電気光学材料層に電界を印加するように配置された少なくとも1つの電極と、
電気光学材料層と熱伝導関係にある発熱要素と、
この発熱要素と電気光学材料層との間に配置された遮熱材とを含む電気光学表示装置であって、遮熱材が断熱材層と熱伝導性材料層とを有し、熱伝導性材料層が断熱材層と電気光学材料層との間に配置されている電気光学表示装置を提供する。
既に言及したように、本発明は一態様において、発熱要素と電気光学材料層との間に配置された遮熱材を有する電気光学表示装置であって、この遮熱材が、断熱材層と、この断熱材層と電気光学材料層との間に配置された熱伝導性材料層とを含むものを提供する。
既に指摘したように、本発明は、懸濁流体がその熱膨張率を低減するための相溶化剤を含有する電気泳動媒体も提供する。この電気泳動媒体はカプセル型であってもよく、マイクロセル型のものであってもよい。本発明の好ましい態様では、懸濁流体は脂肪族炭化水素と塩素化炭化水素との混合物を含み、相溶化剤は過フッ化炭化水素を含む。

であり、三元混合物については、
y=−0.0011x+1.0688
である。図3は、混合物中のISOPARの質量百分率に対するISOPAR G/ハロカーボン混合物の、図2と同じ10〜90℃範囲にわたるセ氏温度毎の密度の平均パーセント推移を曲線で表示している。この図からわかることは、ISOPARが0〜25パーセントおよび75〜100パーセントの範囲にわたっているところでは、混合物は基本的に理想的挙動を呈しており、混合物の密度の減少量がこの成分の個々の密度の減少量の加重平均に等しい(すなわち、複数の点が、純粋な成分に該当する点間を結ぶ直線上に当てはまる)。ところが、ISOPARが25〜75パーセントの範囲内では、混合物は実質的に非理想的挙動を呈し、密度の減少がこの成分の個々の値の加重平均よりも実質的に大きい。そして理想的挙動からの偏倚はISOPARが約50パーセントにおいて最大であることがわかる。
Claims (19)
- 電界が印加されるとその光学的状態を変化させることのできる反射型電気光学材料層(102)と、
前記電気光学材料層(102)に電界を印加するように配置された少なくとも1つの電極と、
前記電気光学材料層(102)と熱伝導関係にある発熱要素(112)と
を含む電気光学表示装置(100)であって、
前記表示装置(100)が、前記発熱要素(112)と前記電気光学材料層(102)との間に配置される遮熱材(104)を特徴としており、前記遮熱材(104)が断熱材層(106)および熱伝導性材料層(108)を含み、前記熱伝導性材料層(108)が前記断熱材層(106)と前記電気光学材料層(102)との間に配置される、電気光学表示装置。 - 前記遮熱材(104)が、中に導電層(108)を有するプリント回路基板を含む、請求項1記載の電気光学表示装置。
- 前記遮熱材(104)が複数の断熱材層(106)と複数の熱伝導性材料層(108)とを含み、前記断熱材層(106)が前記熱伝導性材料層(108)と交互し、1つの熱伝導性材料層(108)が前記断熱材層(106)と前記電気光学材料層(102)との間に配置される、請求項1または2記載の電気光学表示装置。
- 前記断熱材層(106)および前記熱伝導性材料層(108)が前記電気光学材料層(102)の領域全体にわたって延びる、先行請求項のうちいずれか1項記載の電気光学表示装置。
- 前記遮熱材が、上に形成された金属層を有する高分子フィルムを含む、先行請求項のうちいずれか1項記載の電気光学表示装置。
- 前記電気光学材料(102)が回転二色部材の材料あるいはエレクトロクロミック材料を含む、先行請求項のうちいずれか1項記載の電気光学表示装置。
- 前記電気光学材料(102)が電気泳動材料を含む、請求項1〜5のうちいずれか1項記載の電気光学表示装置。
- 前記電気泳動材料が、懸濁流体を封入しているカプセル壁と、前記懸濁流体中に懸濁されて、前記電気泳動材料に電界が印加されるとそこで動き回ることのできる複数の荷電粒子とを有する少なくとも1つのカプセルを含む、請求項7記載の電気光学表示装置。
- 前記電気泳動材料が、中に形成された複数のクローズドセルを有する基材を含み、前記セルのそれぞれが、懸濁流体と、前記懸濁流体中に懸濁されて、前記電気泳動材料に電界が印加されるとそこで動き回ることのできる複数の荷電粒子とを中に有する、請求項7記載の電気光学表示装置。
- 電界が印加されるとその光学的状態を変化させることのできる反射型電気光学材料層(102)と、
前記電気光学材料層(102)に電界を印加するように配置された少なくとも1つの電極と、
前記電気光学材料層(102)と熱伝導関係にある発熱要素(112)と
を含む電気光学表示装置(100)であって、
前記表示装置(100)が、前記発熱要素(112)と前記電気光学材料層(102)との間に配置される熱伝導性材料層(108)を特徴とする、電気光学表示装置。 - 懸濁流体と、前記懸濁流体中に懸濁されて、前記電気泳動材料に電界が印加されるとそこで動き回ることのできる複数の荷電粒子とを含む電気泳動媒体であって、前記媒体は、前記懸濁流体がその熱膨張率を低減するための相溶化剤を含有することを特徴とする、電気泳動媒体。
- 前記懸濁流体が脂肪族炭化水素と塩素化炭化水素との混合物を含む、請求項11記載の電気泳動媒体。
- 前記相溶化剤が過フッ化炭化水素を含む、請求項12記載の電気泳動媒体。
- 前記相溶化剤がフルオロトルエンを含む、請求項13記載の電気泳動媒体。
- 前記フルオロトルエンが前記懸濁流体の少なくとも5重量パーセントの量で存在する、請求項14記載の電気泳動媒体。
- 前記フルオロトルエンが前記懸濁流体の少なくとも8重量パーセントの量で存在する、請求項15記載の電気泳動媒体。
- 前記フルオロトルエンが前記懸濁流体の10重量パーセントを超えない量で存在する、請求項15記載の電気泳動媒体。
- 前記懸濁流体を封入しているカプセル壁と前記荷電粒子とを有する少なくとも1つのカプセルを含む、請求項11記載の電気泳動媒体。
- 中に形成された複数のクローズドセルを有する基材を含み、前記セルのそれぞれが、前記懸濁流体と前記荷電粒子とを中に有する、請求項11記載の電気泳動媒体。
