Abstract
The conditioner, for addn. to petrol, diesel oil, heating oil No. 2 or similar, consists of a polar, oxygenated aliphatic hydrocarbon with mol. wt. 250-500, acidity value 25-100, pref. 50-100, and saponification value 30-250. It is combined with a compatibilising agent, e.g. an alcohol. An aromatic hydrocarbon and/or hydrocarbon base stock may also be used. For internal combustion engines without gas recirculation to heat the fuel, a hydrophilic separator is added to make any water present form a separate layer. Fuel consumption, motor wear, carbon deposits and octane requirement are all reduced.
